Busy Womans Sewing Book by Nancy Zieman.
This is a pretty comprhensive book with a lot of short cuts in sewing your own clothing. I liked it because it's by someone that really knows her stuff when it comes to sewing. She covvers virtually all a person needs to understand how to construct clothing from a pattern, including how to modify a pattern. I think the only thing I didn't like was that it's soft cover not hardback. This means that with a lot of use, the book will wear out sooner than a hardbound book.
