About this product

Product Information

In The Meaning of Life the Dalai Lama takes up from a Buddhis perspective the existential questions--of meaning, purpose, and responsibility--that each of us struggle with. Using the traditional Buddhist allegorical image of the Wheel of Life and the teaching of the twelve links of dependent origination, he deftly illustrates how our existence, though fleeting and often full of woes, brims with the potential for peace and happiness. We can realize that potential by cultivating a wise appreciation of the interdependency of actions and experience, and by living a kind and compassionate life. A life thus lived, the Dalai Lama teaches, becomes thoroughly meaningful for both oneself and for others.

  • Excellent Teaching on Dependent Origination

I bought this book hoping to clear up some of my questions about the Tibetan Buddhist view of the 12 links and dependent origination, and it has met my expectations. It's quite clearly explained by His Holiness, along with a very helpful introduction by Jeffery Hopkins. However, if you've never read anything else about Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, you may find this book too complex. It is quite straightforward on this specific topic, but it does assume you have a basic knowledge of Tibetan dharma. I've found that many of my questions were answered by this book, and even some points I had thought I already understood clearly suddenly hit me with new realizations. However, I still have a few problems in understanding the links and dependent origination. If I had a teacher/guru of my own to ...
