About this product

Product Information

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * The startling true history of how one extraordinary man from a remote corner of the world created an empire that led the world into the modern age--by the author featured in Echoes of the Empire: Beyond Genghis Khan . The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in twenty-five years than the Romans did in four hundred. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization. Vastly more progressive than his European or Asian counterparts, Genghis Khan abolished torture, granted universal religious freedom, and smashed feudal systems of aristocratic privilege. From the story of his rise through the tribal culture to the explosion of civilization that the Mongol Empire unleashed, this brilliant work of revisionist history is nothing less than the epic story of how the modern world was made.

"There is very little time for reading in my new job. But of the few books I've read, my favourite isĀ  Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World Ā by Jack Weatherford (Crown Publishers, New York). It's a fascinating book portraying Genghis Khan in a totally new light. THE BEST BOOK IN A LONG TIME

The Mongols wrote down the life of Genghis Khan shortly after his death, but it has only been recently that scholars have been able to decipher it. This book gives you info on his life, AND on how he changed the world. Very easy to read, not dull anywhere. So if You want to know about the worlds past and how it has affected today, You must read this Great Book.

  • Genghis Khan And The Making Of The Modern World by Jack

As an historian, this is the best book about Silk Road era history in Central Asia. The author even calls it revisionist himself. I have recommended this book to several other professional historians and they all agree. It needs to be part of the AP World History reading requirements for starters. Weatherford serves up a very easy and entertaining read. Dont pick it up until you are ready to fully commit - you wont be able to put it down. An amazing recount on the largest and most successful empire in world history.

  • Amazing information well presented for easy reading

Wonderful examination of how one man rose from very limited resources to conquer and change much of the world in which we live today.
