About this product

Product Information

This wholesome, award-winning classic that has sold more than 1 million copies is written by bestselling authors and illustrated by a Caldecott-winning artist, telling the story of a 100-year-old china doll who discovers surprising friendships and thrilling adventures. The Doll family, beautifully crafted china dolls, has been passed down through four generations of girls in one American family. Annabelle Doll is eight years old and has been for over 100 years. Not a lot has happened to her, cooped up in the dollhouse, with the same doll people, day after day, year after year...until the Funcrafts move in. Unlike the cautious, traditional Doll family in every way, the Funcrafts are carefree and delivered straight from the factory shelves. Tiffany Funcraft is made entirely of plastic and lives in the scariest room of the house, but she's an adventurer and after 100 years of boredom, that's just what Anabelle needs. Especially when she vows to solve a decades-long family mystery. This fresh twist on the beloved genre of doll stories will spark imagination and a sense of wonder in young readers and will send them on a search for the second book in the series, The Meanest Doll in the World .

    Great Kid's Book

This is a wonderful kid's book that has adorable drawings throughout. Also, the layout of the book is very unique with some of the drawings being integrated into the text on that page. The story itself is very cute and unique and makes a great read for kids and adults alike. All in all, I would totally recommend this book for anyone looking for a fun book to read.

  • Great Story and Wonderful Illustrations

I bought this book and read it to see if I'd want to use it for a homeschool co-op class I'll be teaching where the kids will make a simple kit dollhouse in the class over the semester, and for a portion of the class, we'll also read this book and have tea parties while we read. Fun! This book will be perfect for this class I have designed, and I did enjoy the story and the characters. The best part about it are the wonderful illustrations and the idea of the story, where the dolls are really alive, but the people whom they live with don't know it. The writing and the characters could have a bit more depth, but overall, they are well-written and interesting. And the plot that the other reviews have talked about and the story interest of Annabelle longing for more freedom and a more ...

  • The Doll People

For all little girls(even those who grew big) and maybe even some little boys..Remember when you were just positive the dolls you had would come alive at night when you went to sleep? Well, this book is based on that belief. It is about a family of china dollhouse dolls that are over 100 years old.. They have been in the same family their entire life. It's an adventure the young girl and her new friend from a modern Plastic dollhouse family go on to find a missing member of the family.. It may be a bit hard to read for a child younger than 8... but, us old kids can read it to them and remember what it was like to be that age and really, really believe our dolls lived! Delightful..

  • Not Just For Girls!

For mid- to upper-elementary students, this book is a winner! I have taught fourth grade for 10 years. A few years ago, shortly after The Doll People was first published, a colleague and I chose it to be one of the featured books in that year's "Battle of the Books" at our school. It was immensely popular with boys and girls alike. We couldn't keep our class copies on the shelf. While not complicated to read, the characters are well-drawn, with plenty of contrasts. Readers relate easily to the main character, a Victorian-era porcelain doll. Annabelle is lonely and frustrated at her overly-cautious relatives who are too timid to seek her long-lost aunt. While exasperated by their conservative outlook, Annabelle is somewhat shocked at the reckless abandon exhibited by her new friend ...

  • Have always loved reading this from my local library. Feels wonderful to have my own copy. Thank you!
