never too old to start learning

The writing itself is more than adequate and full of good humor and illustrations of the lessons. However!..the reading becomes more interesting than the learning from it, in my opinion. I'm from very old school education with practice practice and home work. SO far in my reading there is none of that. THe teaching style is so different than when I was in 7th grade "eons" ago. I'm not giving up however. Maybe I shall once again enjoy math.

  • examples

I was counting on the book giving some practice problems for each chapter in addition to the few examples that followed each section in all chapters, but I'm mostly satisfied because I relearned a lot of what I was taught in one of my college math courses.

  • Didn't help this dummy much.........

I bought this book because I never had algebra in school. I had to take a course in college and I desperately needed help. Judging from the title I thought this is just what I needed. But unfortunetly it wasn't much help to me. More reading than working problems...To me there were too many non important details. By the time I read those details and got back to what I was suppose to be learning, I was lost. I went to the book store at the college and bought another book. It costed more, but it helped me alot more than this one. The book seems to tell me more about why we use algeba, than how to do algebra. Sorry folks, maybe it's a format you'll understand, but it wasn't for me. By the way, I love reading.....but found this very unintresting.......

  • great review for old folks like me

a different view of Algebra than I got in eighth grade. Much easier to listen to this teach than the catholic nuns I had for the subject. I will probably ACE this class instead of the Ds and Fs I got in grade school. Fred

  • The book lacks illustrations

The book lacks illustrations( examples) but is abundant in words which force you to read a lot to find at the end just one example. I think there are better books about algebra out there with more examples.
