Difficult to read, though I realize it is written as a conversation to his son. Too many complex words, I expect to impress people with his belief in his intellect and superiority. Much of the terms would not be used in 99.999% of conversations. There are many insights to the black experience I had not realized existed. Aithor occasionally forgot that happiness, satisfaction, enterprise, liberty and freedom are individual responsibility as well community. I recommend the book with reservations.

  • Important and beautiful book

Coates is a beautiful writer. This book should be required reading for White people. especially those who believe we all have the same starting point at birth. Coates shows the effects of racism on the lives of Black men and the fears he has for his teenage son through the story of his life long search for understanding of the world he he lives in.

  • Coates is mad.

What an angry American. Iā€™m glad Iā€™m reading it though. I saw Denzel recommend it to a young man in a movie.
