This lens has quality optical glass elements, a wide aperture, and durable build. It is one up better than the original non IS model, because the improvement is a reduction in chromatic aberrations, hand held shots have more of a likelihood of being sharp. There is another model, the IS II, that is an improvement over this lens, but it is much more expensive. This lens was more affordable for me and I am very happy with its quality.

If you are looking for lightening fast Auto Focus and spot on accuracy with stunning image quality with reliability and durability then I can easily say your search is over. This is the lense for you no doubts about it. I have use Tamron version G1 (model a009) for years and I can for sure attests to this lense blows it away. Do rent both for a day and test before you buy either one of them. Canon makes the beat glass in this focus range.

The lens is great and exactly as described. A little heavy for me (woman) but still i can handle it. I took the last shot of moon by hand and it's steady and reasonbally clear. The images I took for my son are very sharp. I used to only use the fixed focal length lenses and this one has the equal image quality as the fixed ones. Very satisfied.

I picked mine up well used, but not abused. After tightening some screws, the thing is flawless. 200mm at f/2.8 is very nice, and the thing is built like a tank. Using an Extender with it is generally pointless, but it works. I love the lens and it's gotten me many shots my slower lenses just wouldn't.

This is the first L lens I've purchased. The image quality is awesome! I love having f/2.8 consistent across the focal length range. It is heavy, but seems to be built like a tank. The Bokeh is really smooth! Totally worth the money!

This lens is one of the more expensive lenses in Canon's brand but worth every penny if you know what you are looking for. Night sports photography without flash was my need. The lens is fast and the image stabilization works great. It is heavy due to the durability and sophistication built into the lens.

The construction of the lens is really solid. It has incredibly sharp focus and great bokeh at the lower f-stop for professional looking portraits and action shots.

This lens is relatively expensive but the images are sharp. It's surprisingly heavy for its size but that's a good thing because it's solid and well-constructed. Unlike some of the other Canon L series lenses, this "L" lens deserves the designation.

I own serveral Canon SLR bodies. I love the platform and all the cool lenses that are available. My tow "goto" lenses are the Caonon EF 24-105MM USM L IS and the Canon EF 70-200MM USM L IS F2.8. Both are excellent lenses and can do justs about everything you need to do Photographically. The 70-200 is a great telephoto lens but also does a great job for portriats and closeups. I am thrilled to have the Canon 70-200 F2.8 to add to my lens compliment.
