    Decent original western movie!

    I watched this dvd and really enjoyed the storyline. As a longtime fan of Tom Selleck's I enjoyed his role as Thomas Magnum, P.I. and so seeing him in a western was a really cool change of pace. The plot is about two brothers at the end of the Civil War in 1865. Selleck's character is a union cavalry officer and his brother happens to be a sergeant in the confederate army. They reunite after the war's end and go home only to find out from their parents that their two younger sisters have been abducted by a renegade unit of rebel soldiers. So they team up to track their sisters and to find the men who are responsible. I also liked Sam Elliot's performance along with seeing his real life wife Katherine Ross in a strong supporting role.     Although the Civil War has driven a wedge between brothers Mac and Dal Tavern, they band together when their family and loved ones are taken hostage by a troop of Confederate renegades going to Mexico. Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott play Mac and Dal Tavern one an Union solider the other a Confederate Solider. Based on the Louis L'amour book Safe for the hole family. Sam Elliott, Tom Selleck, and Jeff Osterhage wanted to do another western together after they did The Sacketts (1979) (TV). They contacted "Sacketts" writer Louis L'Amour and asked him to write a story idea for them. This project was the result. Rating PG Running time 96 minutes Made in 1982 for T.V. Stars.....     A very good western from a very good book of he same name by the great western author Louis L'amour . With three Exceptional actors to handle the leads. as well as a steller cast to make this show fly from the start to the finish. Will entertain you and your family from start to finish. As well as being better then most of the new films that come out now. And its good family fun.
