The epic story of the vastly outnumbered platoon that stopped Germany's leading assault in the Ardennes forest and prevented Hitler's most fearsome tanks from overtaking American positions On the morning of December 16, 1944, eighteen men of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance platoon attached to the 99th Infantry Division found themselves directly in the path of the main thrust of Hitler's massive Ardennes offensive. Despite being vastly outnumbered, they were told to hold their position "at all costs."     The longest night pIt pobably seems pretty short compared to the rest of the next two weeks back in 1944.

    Truly a great tribute to a small bunch of Americans caught up front at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge. For President Carter to single them out for recognition as the most outstanding group showed great forethought and insight. It is a great stop on your visit to Belgium and makes you proud to be an American.

    The Longest Winter

    My dad was in the 106th Infantry and I wanted to learn more about the regiment. Not exactly the information I was looking for. Good historian for the Battle of the Bulge so all was not lost! Not my favorite book but good for facts.

    Truly great WWII Book

    This story is a must read for any WWII researcher! A GREAT book full of information about the Battle of the Bulge and an incredible group of soldiers fighting in the Ardennes forest. You won't waste your money if you buy this book.
