A four-hour miniseries for NBC, this reinterpretation of the myth of Hercules stars dark and brooding Paul Telfer as the title character, and an all-star supporting cast. Hercules is the bastard son of the beautiful Alcmene (Elizabeth Perkins, BIG), who was the object of the god Zeus's unwanted affections while waiting for her husband Amphitryon's (former 007 Timothy Dalton, THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS) return. Zeus's jealous wife Hera curses Hercules from the start, and he is rejected by his mother, who banishes him to the mountains along with his music teacher, Linus (Sean Astin, LORD OF THE RINGS), where he encounters the nymph Deianeira (Leelee Sobieski, THE GLASS HOUSE, MY FIRST MISTER). Later he is tricked into killing his two sons, as well as his nephews, and the unlucky hero, whose suicide is prevented by his godly father, is condemned by king Eurystheus (Kristian Schmid, THE GREAT RAID) to carry out 12 labors of repentance. These are executed with the strength and courage for which Hercules is known, and are charmingly accompanied by Hercules's self-styled bard, Linus.

Unique version of a Supet Hero.
Really interesting adventue tale but subpar Cgi and low resolution picture quality is a letdown. Also the whole 2 day Hallmark version is chopped to pieces- where is the complete film?

One more version of Hercules
There is no definitive version of Hercules. If you collect variations just to see how the story is played at different points in history, you need to see this one. A sample updating of the legend is that Linus, the music teacher Hercules killed in ancient versions that highlighted his uncontrollable rage, becomes a sidekick played by Sean Astin, famous as Sam Gamgee to Frodo Baggins in LOTR. (Hercules only thinks he kills him.)It's not more bizarre than Disney's version, and its "integrity" is not clouded by the thousands of products Disney released to cash in on its adoption of Hercules to a family that includes Moses, Aladdin, Pocahontas and other teen heroes.There is no definitive version of Hercules. Hercules(2005, DVD) is as adventure to watch.
I love stories about the Olympian Gods. It is an adventure to see while setting in your own living room. There is the love stories, the betrayals, the unknown demons and monsters of the underworld. Hercules is the hero we all long for to settle all of our problems. Although he is half God with the strength of his father he still shows his human side with warmth and understanding. He is what every man want to be and what every woman wants in a man. I ordered this DVD several weeks ago. I have watched it several times since. The clarity is perfect. It's the kind of movie that you can watch with your grandchildren. I'd recommend this movie to everyone interested in learning more about the age of the Olympian Gods.I love stories about the Olympian Gods.
