    Victim of the Volume Wars

    I have been a fan of Collective Soul for a long time. I really like the band's music. I am terribly disappointed by the treatment of their music on this compact disc. The mastering was done with a brick wall limiter that was set to heavy compression. The sound is so dense that it just sounds like noise. I pulled it into a computer program that displays the waveform and most of the songs were a solid mass of waves at maximum amplitude. Unfortunately I cannot enjoy the music because the recording just sounds horrible. It is a terrible trend in music these days that they maximize the volume at the recording source instead of taking advantage of the clarity of the digital format. I will be searching for this album on a vinyl edition because, in my experience, the volume war problem is ...
