Simply captivating!
Of late I've been reading and learning as much as I can about this extraordinary time in American history. Not long ago while having conversation with a friend who has read much about the Civil War, I was encouraged to check-out Ken Burn's legendary "The Civil War." Aware that the series recently celebrated its twenty five year anniversary, I feel fortunate to have found the Anniversary Edition. Now the proud owner of this Civil War "gold standard," I savor every DVD. "Almost like being there"
I remember when Ken Burns "The Civil War" came out, it was such a new and exciting way to learn about the Civil War. The character readings of actual participants brought a new humanity and intensity of both sides of the conflict, and Burns' talented filming and editing brought the still photographs to life, introducing a new standard for historical documentaries. I remember wanting to see this series over and over again, but the cost of the VHS video and DVD was so high when it first came out. It was so nice to see this great product reissued, with all the behind the scene extras, at such a reasonable price.
