    Bought is used on Ebay

    At first, I wondered if I should have bought a gps which had voice recognition. The nuvi 42 LM does not have it. However, for my use, it was not worth the extra money. I am completely happy to enter an address into "favorites" manually. Weaknesses -- maybe there is a solution I have not found: 1) As you arrive at a "go to" destination, I wish the house address appeared on the screen. In that way you would not have to remember if the house 100 ft. away on the right or left is the house you want. 2) When I enter a new address into "Favorites", I have to backtrack (arrow back) and start over in order to put in the phone number via "edit". I'm not sure if that is my problem or a Garmin nuvi 42 LM issue. Otherwise, I really like this gps. One aspect I really like is when I am at ...

    Good, not Great

    Pros: Good backup for phone, easy to see, easy to hear, speed indicator is nice Cons: Can't find the satellite - takes forever to start up a lot, does not recalculate quickly as in past versions.

    Bonus Lifetime Maps Upgrade

    This GPS is a typical Garmin product, meaning its one of the better models in the GPS marketplace. It's features and use is intuitive for the most part. The signal is acquired reasonably quickly, the screen is clear and bright and it has a good range of features and options.

    I have used 3 or 4 Garmins and I like this one best of all. I don't like to spend too much for my GPS and make a game of getting all I can for the least I can spend. The 42LM fits this description.

    Great Value!

    Purchased this to replace a 42LM with a cracked screen. Great little unit, I particularly like the split screen display. Voice is a little irritating - too "mechanical." But great value for the money.
