  • Have You Ever Wondered Why Texas Is Different From All The Other States?

State histories are rarely taught in schools anymore, and when they are, they tend to focus on state where the school is located. This is the story of how Texas still managed to become a separate country before it became a state (and why Texas still acts like a separate country more than it acts like one of the states). This provides a quick and gritty history of Texas that is essentially correct (the big topics - some of the small things and story lines are made up so the storyline will hold peoples attentions. The Alamo has fallen. TEXAS RISING shows what happens when three completely different Civilizations run into each other. The Texan/Texicanos/Texicans/Texians/etc. (comprised primarily of northern European descendants with their ancestors history and notionss of freedom's struggles), The Mexicans (newly created and trying to control the lands of Spain, which they claimed as their own when they finally broke away from Spain) and the Comanche Indians (the next planned series is called: COMANCHE). All three groups have competing interests. Both Mexicans and the Texas crowd claim they are doing this for freedom of their people (check out Lincoln's pre-civil war speech when he speaks of Liberty and Tyranny, when both sides used the phrase but each had a completely different meaning attached to the phrase). And on the edge: The United States of America and it's President: Andrew Jackson. Jackson wanted to follow Jefferson's idea that the United States should span coast to coast - from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Texas is in the middle of that. Additionally it very clearly explains the origins of: The Texas Rangers (originally the group who did "rangering" (i.e.: scouting)) and why A Woman (The Yellow Rose Of Texas) helped create Texas and but for her actions Texas would probably not exist. 3 DVDs. 6 episodes. I watched it on cable, and then bought the DVD.

  • DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS

I learned a lot with this series than what Hollywood did in their past movies. I've seen the History Channel's documentaries of the Alamo but it never really broke down the details between the Alamo and San Jacinto. It was nice to know what happened afterwards with the characters in real life. I believe there will be a sequel to Texas Rising as there was the Indian wars and then the Civil War.

  • Texas Rising to the highest Level

In the same vein as the "Lonesome Dove" series this is finely crafted extremely well-acted re-imagined reenactment of the post-Alamo skirmishes between the Texas Rangers and the Mexican Santa Anna's forces. Though not very historically accurate ,it is an extremely engaging mini-series and I hope they follow it up with the Comanche Wars teaser they had at the end of the series although I have not been able to find it. Stellar performances by Henry Dean Morgan, Ray Liotta and Bill Paxton help carry this to the next level. This is the best western I've seen since the "Hatfields and Mccoys" which coincidently was made by the same group.

  • A PIECE OF HISTORY

I bought this movie because it provides historical information following the fall of the Alamo, and produced by the history channel. A must have for history buffs.

  • Good historic value

Being a Texan and a history buff, I found it very interesting. In some cases a little of it was for entertainment effect, but didn't detract from the actual events.

  • awesome!

The movie itself was well done but I wish there would have been a battle scene with Mexico. Costumes and actors were great.
