    It turned out my PS2 had an issue with the motherboard rather than the drive, but the product I received was shipped well and in good condition. The company was also very communicative about solder needing to be removed, and when I informed them that I didn't need the drive. I didn't elect to get a refund since they did everything right on their end.

    The new PVR-802W laser for my SCPH-75001...

    The new PVR-802W laser for my SCPH-75001 PS2 worked perfectly! Console is now reading both CD and DVD based games. Be sure to remove the solder blob protecting the laser before installation or else it will not work, but other wise it's about as close to a drop in replacement that one can get.

    Works as expected

    Worked fantastic after removing the solder point; the first time I tried, I didn’t remove it completely and it could only read CDs. I recommend using a multimeter to make sure that there is no continuity between the pads of the solder point. Quiet operation is a bonus too!
