Code-Name Downfall is a good buy!
I bought downfall because I was looking for something new to read about WWII; I have read many many WWII books and wanted to read about something not in your standard WWII book. While Downfall did cover the entire Pacific War, it offered a slightly different view from the Japanease perspective and some of the issues/plans the Japanease were dealing with. What I really liked about this book is the coverage of the plans to invade the Japanease mainland: "OPERATION DOWNFALL". The book covered in detail the plans proposed and canceled as well as the planned final invasion. What was going on in Japan as the bombs dropped? Did some Japanease leadership want to continue the war even after Nagasaki? How did the Japanease plan to repel the American invaders? How many people would've died ...
