Easy to use, image and sound quality are good. I use it on a tripod for studio shots of toy product actions with a big monitor. Has a nice eye piece backup , easy buttons, nice zoom, exposure control is easy. I convert it easily to digital with Hones Tech and edit it with Pinnacle. Comes from the original Sony TR 101 line. Nice little worker. Have bought replacements of these on Ebay at low cost. Bought my now deceased TR101 in 1995. Ebay is a great store house of many great old things.

When it works it works well, but being an older item its ability to function adequately is inconsistent. I purchased this because I want to convert old videos into a digital format. This camera frequently gives me an error message and forces me to eject the tape and try again. At one point this was occurring once every 1-2 seconds of footage which renders it pretty much useless. Occasional smacking will set it back on track but it's not 100% effective. Given that this item was described as only having cosmetic flaws and that it works 100% you can imagine my disappointment.

I bought this camcorder because it is a Sony nightshot from late 1998, and I wanted it for infrared videography in the daytime (NOT for voyeurism, though! For another totally unrelated experiment). I liked it because not only did it have the 0 lux Nightshot feature, but it also required a minimum illumination of only .4 lux NOT using Nightshot mode! I have seen very few camcorders which offered a "minimum light requirement" of so few lux! Well, it works just fine with a #87 infrared filter during the day, no Nightshot needed! I have captured "UFOs" once in a while, while using it, so I personally consider it a good camcorder! :-)
Although this is an older Camcorder, I purchased it because it serves my purpose fine. It's not HD, does not have Steady image and uses a tape cartridge but I knew this all along. It was a replacement for a similar CamCorder, it works fine, long battery life and is simple to operate. I'm very satisfied with it. For $80 (including shipping), I consider it a good buy. J Mayer
This camcorder works perfectly! It is easy to hold in one hand and the viewfinder is adjustable, making lower shots much smoother to view while filming. The audio is very clear and the camera has a mic input for an external microphone. This particular camcorder is also able to use Hi8 tapes.
