I purchased this modem in an attempt to add a second computer in my home that was connected to the internet. Little did I know I had to pay a seperate internet access fee because I wanted to run 2 modems. Never-the-less, I decided to buy a wireless router as well. Swapped out my current modem, which was a Motorola SB5100, with the D-Link DCM-202. I like the DCM-202 much better as it is more compact in size, just as fast as the Motorola however I don't have to always reset the new modem. With my SB5100, I was having to unplug it and/or reset it every other day due to the fact I leave it on all the time. Haven't had any problems with the D-Link modem after these 30 days I have owned it. Would highly recommend, plus it is quite cost efficient.
This cable modem is very small with very simple installation procedure. Comes with USB and Ethernet port for connection to PC or wired / wireless router. I only needed to notify my cable / internet provider regarding the MAC address and this modem got me connection at 3-4 MBPS within 15 minutes. I replaced my old 3 COM cable modem due to dropped and bad VOIP connection. No more problem and quality of voice improved by 400%!! Wish I had replaced my old modem to this one much earlier. Highly recommended for internet, gaming and VOIP.
I decided to buy this after seeing my cable bill. I have been paying $7 a month for 10 years? That's over $800! I got this for a great deal of $25, but this would be worth it at pretty much any cost. I ran my speed test after hooking it up and saw no noticeable difference in speed from the one the cable company had provided. This is apparently an "Older Model" but I don't know what else I could want besides speed. I didn't install anything from the disc, I just hooked it up and called the cable company, and everything works great. My only regret is that I didn't buy my own modem sooner!
Performed like a crippled man in a foot race they ought to be ashamed of themselves for charging a price like that for something that dont work. And the award for the best gaming router goes too....... Its definitely not the d-link 4500. I set this router up using the software that came with it and when it was done everything appeared to be alright. After about 2 games of Call of duty 5 for xbox 360 i got kicked off... what the??? So i open the ports for the router to allow xbox live to run at its best and a couple games after that i got kicked off again....What the???? so i call d-link and start what ends up being the worst support ever (I called about 14 times) they first of all are not very good at speaking english at all so it was hard to understand them and the noise in the background each time i called was rediculous on top of not being able to understand them. So we started a series of trouble shooting steps and after the 10th or 12th time i called i started feeling like the steps we were following were just a chicken chase for me and they dont know what the hell they were doing??!! I not only would get disconnected from xbox live but also from the ps3 nintendo wii and my laptop so nothing worked. My service provider said everything was ok on their end my modem was tested and worked fine and a 200 dollar GAMING router should plug and play from jump. THIS IS BULL SHI.... I hooked my LINKSYS back up and played like a champ.... D-LINK 4500 GAMING ROUTER......= Nothing but chaos. Some people have got this thing to work but check it out for yourself online im not the only person who has trouble with this thing. Downloaded the current firmware everything for nothing. At its cost it should plug and play easily without flaw. And whats up with no online chat support D-LINK??? You guys suck Performed like a crippled man in a foot race they ought to be ashamed of themselves for charging a price like that for something that dont work.Read full review
Modem is fantastic. It was very easy to setup. I think for the money the refurbished d-link is the way to go. It also seems to boost the speed of my connection. My Internet speed before was 15-19 Mbps. Now it gets up to 25 Mbps!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend this modem with a d-link router to accompany it, over purchasing an all in one unit from Motorola or any other brands.
I bought the D-link DCM-202 Cable Modem a mounths ago. The Modem's size is perfect for fitting in a box.It can use Windows VISTA. So I dicided buy it. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.
Don't let the size of this modem fool you. It may be small, but it is highly capable. Installation and setup was very easy (a caveman can do it.. hihihi), and the connection speed is amazing - it is fast!
Poor upload speed and you can't download and upload worth a d... at the same time. WhenI was told it was compatable with my broadband internet provider. I wasn't told it was a class 2 . A class 2 has a max download speed of 16 MB. My internet speed is 20 MB, so if I use it Iloose 4 MB of speedand my download speed drops enough to see the difference whenI go online. If you have broadband you'll need a class 3 to match with your download speed ( 20 MB 0. This modem is Not the one you want. It's only good for economy broadband at slower speeds then your normal broadband.
The DCM-202 modem works awesome. Comcast said they got a really good strong signal from it, and the (internet)speed has increased a bit. The modem is small and compact, so it doesn't take up too much space. The one thing I do not like about it is that, its only a half duplex modem. Meaning if your uploading something, you cannot surf the web until it has finished uploading. Its usually not a problem for me as I rarely upload things but when I do it goes relatively fast. Other than that, fantastic modem. Plain to get many good years out of it.
This is a great modem if you are using an internet phone service like packet8.net or something similar. I tried using the Motorola with built in router 900 series and it is a great modem but not for internet phone users. Well in my experience anyways.
