Very nice book shelf speaker with a dedicated right and left channel speaker. These came out in 1984 and were the next iteration after the original Bose 201 speaker! These are a 2 way design with a woofer and tweeter. That in itself doesn't make them a standout speaker in the vast array of bookshelf speakers out there. It is the cabinet design with its strategic deflection of the soundwaves that make it unique! Despite its compact cabinet size, the 201 Series II has decent bass response and distinct high end response. They can serve as either a primary or secondary pair of speaker on your system. Rated at 80 watts @ 8 ohms (I believe that is the factory rating), these work well in either capacity with a system of 50 to 100 Watts. At low volume listening they are clean and well defined. For a small speaker that can be readily purchased for $50 to $100 for a nice looking and playing pair, these are a great value and offer a very nice sound, even compared to full-size speakers!Read full review
I have these speakers in a stereo set up, and though they fall far short of the whole, "Best speakers ever," they do their job. I have them set up in the middle room of three rather large openly joined rooms, and they fill all three with music quite well. They could use a sub to take a bit of the load off of the low end, but the bass is decent. They are spaced about four and a half feet apart with the tweeters facing outwards, which helps the sound to spread throughout the three rooms. You can totally forget about proper imaging with these speakers, and if that is something that you are interested in, I would look elsewhere. If you are looking for "sound everywhere" however, I would certainly recommend these speakers. I paid $70 including shipping, and would feel comfortable spending up to $100 if I had to do it again, but I wouldn't pay to buy these new. For the average person, in many different settings, these speakers are more than adequate, and I'm sure they would say they sound great (maybe even "the best speakers ever"). If you lean more to the audiophile end of the spectrum, they will be found quite lacking (i.e. muddy bass, only decent midrange, muffled highs, and forget about sound imaging). These speakers were exactly what I was looking for in order to fill the downstairs of the house with music, and they do it well.Read full review
The 201 series is one of the best from Bose. I have owned 901’s which were fine for their day, but the 201’s have matched the richness and crispness of the music for a smaller room. While the cube speakers are great for video/movies, I am old school when it comes to music.

Impressive set of speakers, for their size I'm especially pleased with the clarity of the bass. I'm only pushing 120w through them.so far I haven't had the volume above about 3 1/2 - 4. Trying to establish a fully refined sound w/ no distortion obviously before I'll have the full report for you'al

The minute i hook these up, i was like WOW, very good stereo separation, thanks to the direct reflecting design. The only problem i encountered from these, they had a awful tone (about 250hz) that was cancelling so i took the woofers out and i found they didn't put enough acoustic material, so i found more material and put more in each speaker, the bass is a lot more smooth and the midrange has improved a lot after I added more acoustic material. Yeah if you encountered this issue this would a very fun and easy improvement and it wont take more than 10 minutes. But overall these speakers are my top favorite because of the design and good sound quality.

I've had Bose speakers for many years and i've always found them to be an excellent value for the price. I purchased 4 of this series through eBay to augment my home theater system and I'm absolutely delighted at their sound and performance. "Clear and concise" is my evaluation, plus they look good and enhance the appearance of the room. I would recommend this series of speakers to anyone who wants to improve their home theater or sound system.

The Bose 201 is an affordable bookshelf speaker with a rich balanced sound. Not a hyped harsh mid range or pumped up bass but smooth and comfortable to listen to for hours on end. Great for listening to jazz, classical, and vintage rock. If you like hype, you should consider different speakers.

I have a tiny living room, maybe 12 X 14 or so, and i added these to a pair of Bose 301's and a Yamaha subwoofer, powered by a Marantz WiFi receiver! Needless to say, it's a powerful combination. The speakers are mounted on the shelves of my built in bookcase, giving them the optimum eye level placement. Buying these at half price, and being new in the box to boot, was a major score. Bose equipment never disappoints, just like Sony in my opinion.

Bose 201 series IV sound great and look great as well. I live in a small apartment and they fill the living room with beautiful highs and awesome base even at low volume. Something I have always wanted. Worth every penny. Very happy with my purchase.
