About this product

Product Information

Discover the secrets of an emerging science affectionately dubbed "evo devo" as the answer-seekers at NOVA explore the secrets of evolution. Our planet is home to a staggering number of thriving species. Back in the 19th Century, Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection helped explain how many of Earth's most resilient creatures adapted and evolved over the centuries. Unfortunately, it also raised countless questions, confusing even our most brilliant scientists. Beginning on the Galapagos Islands and venturing into the frozen heart of the Arctic, the NOVA crew watches as scientists use genetics to find out just how many of Darwin's radical theories still hold water today.

  • This is as good as it gets for people who love science, teach it or want to understand it.

This NOVA/ PBS production is the best video programs I have ever viewed. It tracks genetic science from its beginnings with Darwin to the kinds of bioengineering research that we are seeing today. I use it with doctoral students now to help them understand how science actually works. The material is accurate, factual and Interesting. The photography is stunning and so many of the stories that relate individual research projects along the way are thoroughly engaging and fascinating. It turns out that great science is progressive and sometimes even plodding, but it is also highly creative, innovation and laced with serendipitous discoveries. This relatively brief video program demonstrates all of that repeatedly and clearly. It also illustrates the reciprocity between technological ...
