I’m a “constant reader” of Steven King but I truly almost put him down after he “re-released” The Stand touting it as the “original uncut” version. That was just wasn’t so. I was so excited when the “uncut” version came out...I couldn’t wait. But to my “horror” no pun intended, King made multiple references to things that simply did not exist in 1978 when the Stand was originally released. Spuds MacKenzie? Freddy Krueger? AIDS? I could go on and on. So clearly he did the re-write after and passed it of as the original. I was so mad! I’ve since forgiven my all time favorite writer for just trying to make a buck but this is the “original” Stand! And by far his true masterpiece that he simply should have left alone.

I have read many King books, and like a lot of his books, I expected this to start slow and then get exciting several pages into it: I was wrong. This book had a fast start right out of the gate and kept me reading non-stop through the whole thing. A very intense story and probably one of my favorite King books. Excellent character development makes you really feel for the people in this story and is one of the many reasons I enjoyed this read. Highly recommended.
I have read nearly all of Shephen King's books and this is by far my number one choice.. I only read the uncut version because I wanted to read it all.. This was one of his longer stories and the made for TV movie almost did the book justice but I still like the book better... The story does jump around quite a bit so you really have to keep reading and pay attention to the storyline of good vs evil on many different levels.. If you want to read a long quality Stephen King Novel, this one is it!!
I decided to buy it while in Highscool. It came reccomended by my English Teacher. I fell in love with Stephen Kings work because of this book. The way he developed the characters made you feel like you know them each and every one. The vivid details about the dreams in the book creeped me out.Really reminds me alot of End of Times in the bible.I think this was clearly the best book Mr King ever wrote and that is saying alot.
I read the book and saw the movie years ago. A friend of mine was asking about it so I bought it for her. And again watched the movie on tv not long ago I believe it was on for 9 hours. The first time they aired it it was a 6 part mini series. If you love King like I do it's the book for you. If you've never read King like my friend it's a good one to start with.
