His own expedition underwent such ordeals as the hazardous maneuvers to land on the icy Antarctic coast, the scaling of the 13,000-foot volcanic Mount Erebus, and wintering the polar blizzards before setting off for the South Pole.     Fantastic, typical of Shackelton-based books!

    The book moves well, and keeps the interest easily. Although it is inherently different from "South", and other books about Antarctic exploration, this book lets you see more of the insight that led Shackelton to continue his expeditions despite measured success. It's a fantastic book!!!
