About this product

Product Information

Space Harrier is back from the Land of Dragons and is ready for action in this Genesis continuation of the legendary saga that began in the arcades.

The year is 6236. The game is Space Harrier II. Armed with his trusty laser blaster, Space Harrier responds to a distress call and is sent via intergalactic teleportation to Fantasyland, a world in the 214th sector. This faraway land deep within the universe is under attack by space phantoms, multi-headed reptiles, wicked wizards and other cosmic creatures.

To bring peace to Fantasyland, our hero must shoot as many creatures as he can and avoid obstacles (such as trees, enemy fire, rocks and columns) through 12 stages of combat. At the end of each stage, he must face a giant boss character. After surviving five stages, he'll enter a bonus round in which he'll board a flying saucer and blast away at targets.

You view Space Harrier from behind and can maneuver him in a flying position all over screen or run him along the ground. The laser blaster shoots forward into the distance; you can turn Rapid Fire on or off. Also, you can choose from three difficulty levels and select the stage at which you would like to begin.

Space Harrier II is for one player only. The game ends when you lose all your lives or when you survive all twelve stages.

  • Retro gaming Sega

One great retro Sega sprite scrolling shooter. The game is fast paced and every close to the arcade version. The music on this version is a bit slower than the North American or Japan version as the PAL one is only at 50hz. The game play still is fast, but you will notice the bit slower music. The reason I pick this one over the US one is the price, this one was cheaper and the PAL version fits in the US genesis as the cart was designed the same way. The Japan version carts are more oval. If you are a Genesis fan and trying to collect the Real carts this is a must have.

  • Great fun

This game has Fast paced and rewarding gameplay. It’s an early Genesis title, but holds up very well visually.

  • A sequel that is more forgiving than the original

Space Harrier II was one of the first Genesis games I bought. I really didn't know too much about the games on the Genesis at the time, so I basically picked up whatever looked cool. When I saw SH II at Toys 'R Us, I thought the 3D gameplay looked interesting, so I put down the 30 bucks for it. I wasn't disappointed and SH II helped set the standard I would go by when buying future Genesis games. Graphically, SH II is an above average Genesis title. The worlds are colorful and bright and the enemies are hugh and well detailed. The sound effects are decent with some digitized voice samples like "Get Ready" (this became a catch phrase for me) and your dying yell when you get hit. The music is pretty mellow and set to a sci fi/fantasy tone. Those who remember the original Space ...

  • Sega's classic arcade phenom

Here's a game that Sega holds so dearly that it's been remade, ported, and referenced to throughout their life as a gaming company. Brought from the arcades to the home consoles, with the first game on the 8-bit Sega Master System this proved to be one of the killer apps in Sega's campaign to prove the Genesis could do what the Nintendo could not. It's fast, colorful, can get really crowded, and most of all, it's difficult. That may be a big design flaw, how difficult this game is. This is a scrolling shooter, but not vertical or horizontal, your scrolling inward toward the screen, very often at rocket speeds (blast processing at work), firing at equally quick moving enemies that bob and weeve all over the screen, constantly avoiding your shots. But thankfully you can see where you're ...
