The Original and Still The Best
This Original Broadway Cast Recording from 1957 (can it really be 50 years ago) is still the very best rendition of this outstanding musical. Robert Preston has been called peerless in the Harold Hill role, and I cannot and will not disagree with that description. Ditto for Barbara Cook, who was still a fresh-faced ingenue at that point. "My White Knight" is simply marvelous. But folks this show still is about the barbershop quartet singing of The Buffalo Bills. Meridith Willson cast them first as they are so important to this golden chesnut of a show.This Original Broadway Cast Recording from 1957 (can it really be 50 years ago) is still the very best rendition of this outstanding musical.
