About this product

Product Information

Oliver Stone's over-the-top satire on America's worshipful fascination with tabloid criminals stars Woody Harrelson as Mickey Knox and Juliette Lewis as girlfriend-wife Mallory Wilson. Commencing with the dual murder of Mallory's sexually abusive father (Rodney Dangerfield) and grossly negligent mother (Edie McClurg), the anomic couple take off on a three-week killing spree across the country, telling everyone who they are so that they get the credit for their crimes. The media are immediately enthralled with the couple, especially Wayne Gale (Robert Downey Jr.), the bloodthirsty host of a tabloid TV show who follows their every move. By the time they're finally arrested, they've become such huge media stars that the cops treat them more like celebrities than criminals. Even the maniacal limelight-hogging warden of the Batongaville State Prison, Dwight McClusky (Tommy Lee Jones), is in awe. Stone pulls out all the stops in the prison riot, as the unwitting Gale becomes an unwilling participant in his own broadcast of the event. Again the director switches from film to video, from color to black and white, from sitcom parody to newsreel parody, and from one film stock to another, hoping to jar the audience out of its complacency with visual hyperbole.

    Crazier than "Bonnie and Clyde"!

Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis really stand out in this bizarre film as they "run amok" on society with all the hate one could imagine. Rodney Dangerfield, who as Juliettes dad, really hit home too. He presents himself as a nightmare to behold, as one of the lowest forms of scum imaginable for a girl to have as a father. This film keeps you in your seat with action around every turn. If you like films like "Pulp Fiction" and "Bonny and Clyde", this is a must see!

  • a must have

The cast is superb - Rodney Dangerfield, Robert Downey Jr., Tommy Lee Jones, Tom Sizemore, Edie McClurg (the rental car agent from "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and Rooney's assistant in "Ferris Bueller"!) and Denis Leary and Ashley Judd in deleted scenes included in the Director's Cut. The story was conceived by Quentin Tarantino (and it's very similar to his "True Romance" script -- a sort of modern-day "Bonnie and Clyde Redux") and re-written by Stone (much to the chagrin of QT). I'm not sure which would have made for a better film but, despite its flaws (which are mainly a none-too-subtle message and too much violence), "Natural Born Killers" is a sort of bizarre, outlandish masterpiece of drugged-out cinema. --

  • Natural Born Killers, 2000 DVD

This is one incredibly powerful picture, not for the squeamish (or youngsters). Its major theme is that who we are is significantly affected by how we were brought up. The filming is raw and disturbing, much as the minds and perceptions of those who it portrays. There are subtleties about morality here, too, but the film is not twisted to fit a (possibly) expected "happy ending" where the "good guys" win; it goes beyond that, and forces one to think about how we choose to be "good" or not. It's definitely a thinking person's film. The DVD (a "Director's Cut") goes somewhat beyond the original film, and its power and message remains true.

  • Natural Born Killers

Dark, realistic (and scary because it could happen) drama by Oliver Stone that is sure to become a classic. Mesmerizing performances by Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson. Poor Mallory had a bad childhood -- a mother who can't help when her father abuses her, she rebels when she meets Mickey. After killing her parents, the two cause murder and mayhem as they travel the country. Strong supporting roles of Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Downey, Jr. and Tom Sizemore as the cop determined to catch them, this is a crazy ride from beginning to end.

  • A strikingly innovative film.

Oliver Stone followed his thought-provoking J.F.K. with this full-bore assault on the senses; few director's have ever delivered such an effective one-two punch. This radical mixture of different film stocks, animated sequences, black humor, and ultra-violence has often been imitated but never equalled. This was made by a filmmaker on fire. 80% of Quentin Tarantino's original script remains, but Stone just had to make this film his own. I doubt if we will see another film quite like it anytime soon. Kudos to a great cast [Cheers, Woody!] and a scathing take on the crazed aspects of celebrity worship in U.S. media. Was this baby prophetic or what? A great film in every way, I can recommend it to anyone who is sick and tired of formula filmmaking. Mickey & Mallory live.
