  • The Husband-A Marriage of Love and Suspense

First, let me say that I reserve a 5 of 5 rating for books that I find myself a little miffed to be finished with--ones that I am extremely impressed with. While The Husband is a great work by Dean Koontz, I would not put it in my top three or four works of his. Having said that, it is a well done novel and has all of the elements that I expect from Koontz: characters that you can connect with and understand their motivations, situations none of us would ever hope to face and the ultimate power of the universe: Love. The Husband is definitely a page-turner and is a satisfying read. I frequently found myself wondering if I could produce the same mettle that the main characters did in impossible situations. (I'd like to think so, but wouldn't we all?) I've read some reviews that say The ...

  • The Husband by Dean Koontz (2006)

Dean Koontz has always been a favorite writer of mine. When I saw this one. For those of you who are afraid to read this author this is one of his best. It was not horro but a great, fast-paced suspense book filled with surprises. By far one of his best in a long time. I finished it in 2 days. A great plot that never stops moving. What would you do for love? We have your wife you can get her back for 2 million cash. Though Mitchell Rafferty is a small lanscaping operation those are the terms. Someone has kidnapped his wife and they are serious about the ransom. Follow Mitchell through the fast paced plot, his plan to help his wife and find her no matter what. It will make you think about what matters in life.

  • Took a bit to get started...

Not an avid reader of this author, but an avid reader nevertheless - I found that it took me a bit of work to get into the book at the beginning. Guy whose wife has been taken with no chance of comming up with the amount the womanappers want, unable to tell anyone what is going on, and disadvantaged in knowing who truly is trustworthy. The plot was stumbling forward at an almost too predictable pace with barely enough content too keep me interested. I found myself reading on, not because it was an interesting story with characters that I couldn't bring myself to part with, but just to get to the end and get it over with. Average rating for keeping me interested enough to finish the book.

  • The Husband by Dean Koontz

I bought this Koontz book because I am a great fan of his writing. I love his use of metaphor and his overall command of the English language and the way Koontz writes keeps a reader involved in his books from beginning to end, but not in this story. For me the action was slow to take off after the incident in the beginning. The greatest hook doesn't happen until deep into the book, around page 150 or thereabouts. From that point on, Koontz shows his mastery and the story is a great thriller like readers are accustomed to from him. If you can hang on until then, the ride is good. Overall, I wish I'd not paid the new release, first edition prices for this one and, have already sold it. For a Koontz book I was sorely disappointed for the cash I paid.

  • Can't get enough Koontz

I got hooked on Koontz several years back, and have read all his work I can get my hands on. Some are kind of out there, but some like "The Husband", can really send chills down your spine. Dean Koontz manages to blend suspense, a little bizzaro, and even some life lessons in most of his work. "The Husband" is such a work. When a book is written well, you can feel yourself in the various roles, and especially the lead role in the book. In the husband, you catch yourself looking behind yourself as your read. Find it for a great price on ebay or half.com like I did, and it's even better!
