    BILLY CRYSTAL DELIVERS A MAXX FILM ROLE!

    before Billy Crystal was a household name, back in the 80's he played some serious roles, such as this. And as good as he is and was as a comedian, he was just as good as a struggling comic where time has passed him by. Lucky for us, as he turns 65 years old next March 14, he is still funny as hell, as a film star, as a stand up comedian and as an author. His biographical book of two years ago is a great, light read; You will appreciate him even more.

    Well done and bitter sweet

    I bought this movie as a present for my 80 year old father. Even though the movie came out in the 90's, I'd never seen it till today. It's a bitter sweet look at aging, show biz and relationships as the movie follows the life of "Buddy Young Jr.", a popular yet self-destructive comic who rises to the heights of starom in the fifties, played by Billy Crystal. David Paymer is excellent as his long-suffering manager and brother. The movie has excellent cinematography and the acting is good, but it's more sad than funny as the story of aging and becoming yesterday's news may be prophetic for entertainers like Crystal. The DVD contains a nice number of special features with interesting background info, (although the "gag reel" is not that funny.) Nice cameos by Jerry Lewis and a few other ...

    Life of a comedian a must see.

    Billy crystal's best performance.playing an old time comedian covering fifty years.the one liner jokes make you think you are seeing Henny youngman and rodney dangerfield on the same bill.the way they depict his personal life is very moving.then add Helen hunt to the cast and it's even better.if you can find it,try it.

    Very entertaining and thoughtful

    I am not an out-loud laugher, but this movie is full of funny material throughout, much of it for adults only. That being said, it is such a surprise for a constantly entertaining, funny movie to have good thoughtful themes. I say, "Well done!" Within the movie there is a satisfying exploration of family dynamics in the life of a showbiz workaholic. Charming and delightful capture it, but the make it sound like it can't be funny. It is! It's Billy Crystal after all. I bought it because it was less than the price of two rentals, and I knew there was a cameo by Jerry Lewis - one of the few times you can see him doing comedy in the past several years.
