Harrowing true account of 1915 shipwreck
In 1915, the steamship EASTLAND capsized within a few feet of the dock in Chicago. More people died on the Eastland than on the Titanic, or in the Great Chicago Fire. Yet the disaster has not generated as much interest, possibly because an excursion boat of picknickers on a lake, rolling over near the dock, does not sound as dangerous as a collision in the Atlantic Ocean. Bonansinga, best known as a horror fiction writer, brings this non-fiction account to horrific life, relating the true experiences of passengers trapped in the overturned wreck. A lot of research went into finding the facts about a tragedy that has been almost forgotten.
