So for some strange reason the sim card was a different size. It was a easy fix, had to go to ATT and paid the $5 for the new size and they were helpful in transferring the contact info. Other than that it is a new cell phone and the only type that will last in my work condition.

Probably a good phone. Seems solid etc. and worked really nice for 3 or 4 days. After that it either wouldn't charge or the battery is no good. Regardless, with the supplied (and then with another at&t charger) charger, an all night charge wouldn't give 5 minutes of talk time. Dead! I just don't have time to mess with it. Send me another, I'll send it back to you, and update my review with explanation.

Got this Samsung Rugby II to replace my 1-year-old Nokia 6350. The Nokia was a pretty good phone, but the battery fell out of the phone each time the phone got dropped on the floor. The best part about the Rugby is that the battery cover is very secure. I've owned the Samsung Convoy (Verizon) before, so I thought this phone would be similar. It is in some ways. The up side is that the Rugby II is very durable, and it functions reliably. It lets me access my address book while I'm talking on the phone, and it let's me look at my calendar while I'm on the phone as well. However, the calendar isn't very easy to use -- you have to manually tell it you want the event to set an alarm. Plus you have to put an event stop time, which is annoying when you're in a hurry. Texting is tedious because you have to press send 2 times before the text actually begins to send. Also, if you close the phone before sent confirmation, the text may not go through. The camera is very easy to use and takes good quality photos. Also, the SD card is hard to get to because it's underneath the battery -- so you have take the battery out to get your photos off the card.Read full review
My old MotoRAZR cell phone would no longer re-charge, after many years of admirable service. I had changed the battery several times before, but this time the problem was the phone. I tried several different new batteries and chargers, but still got "Unable to Charge" errors. The Samsung Rugby II was a suitable replacement due to its sturdy construction, and hopefully will serve me as long, or longer than my old MotoRAZR. The changeover was a "Snap". I just put my old Cingular SIM into the Samsung Rugby II, and I was immediately back in business, just where I had left off. The Samsung Rugby II arrived in "Undistinguishable from New" condition, with not a scratch nor any wear mark anywhere on it. "No Worries Mate" if you drop it on hunting for the battery or compartment door, as the compartment has a Locking screw ! It even has a metal (read M-E-T-A-L, not some kind of shiny plastic) lanyard attachment, so it can be retrieved from the depths of whatever bag, pack, or bucket you happen to carry your phone in. It works perfectly and the "Push to Talk" button is a great feature to keep up with business when "out in the field".Read full review
I chose this as a replacement for my Nokia 6350 because that phone could not hold onto its battery cover and I was having some problems with the ringer & vibration functions. Also the multimedia buttons on the face of the phone were pretty annoying. What appealed to me about the Rugby is that it's tough. It looks like it will hold up very well. I use talk, text, pictures, and some organization features and if that's all you need, this thing does it great. My only complaints so far are that it's a bit bulkier and heavier than I thought. You'll never forget this thing's in your pocket. It's only a minor thing but I don't like that you need to remove the battery to access your micro-sd storage card. Also, you might have to look around a little bit to find a USB cable that fits this port. Since mine didn't come with a usb cable (only a wall charger), I've been using ones from other phones that have the right plug but because of the length and shape of them, they don't want to stay plugged into the phone for PC-connection. If it lasts as long as it looks like it should, I will be very happy. I've had good luck with basic Samsung phones.Read full review
I like how the phone feels in my hand--it is solid and the keypad has a little resistance and the keys are large enough. The sound quality is good, although occasionally I hear an echo of my voice. I like the sound it makes when a text comes in. The camera quality is good and it even records short video. What I don't like is how often I inadvertently press the PTT button which I never use. I also don't like how the symbols are spread out over various number keys--so I have to look around for the $ sign, or the ()#%&* signs every time. I still can't find quotation marks, yet there are Greek symbols... Also, more importantly, the phone is supposed to be waterproof, but the charge portal is just covered by a plastic tab, like on a water bottle, which could easily break off. It's a poorly designed feature on an otherwise sturdy, functional phone.Read full review
The Rugby ll is the rough service phone you need if you work outdoors in high noise environments like I do. I work at a Bus Depot, next to a subway yard and the sounds o0f buses and trains is a constant. The Rugby ll lets me hear calls clearly and the large speaker gives the ringer the "OOMPH" to let me know there's a call even under outdoor wear in the winter. This is my second Rugby ll and I wouldn't go to work without it. It's been through rain, snow, two hurricanes and even a small tornado and still works great! The only annoyance is it's a little too easy to press the outside button for PTT accidently and you have to open the flip to cancel using the feature. Samsung really should have put in a "Setting" to disable the PTT if you want to. I've had other "Rugged" phones but this one has the ease of use and the comfort in the hand to put it above the others. The bluetooth and voice dialing pair up smoothly with my hands-free device in my car.Read full review
Ive had this phone for 8 months now and waited to give review till it seemed long enough to check for any problems....If your not in the touch phone,,smart phone age like me and want a great battery life and easy use flip phone with durability to take a drop or be in your pocket all day--This is for you,,My son and I have one and I swear by it.My son made ring tones(recorded) and text ID"s and is very happy too!---Only reason I didnt give 5"s all around is there is always room for improvement on anything. I"ll probally buy one for my daughter also!!!
I wanted this phone, most likely, for the same reason everyone else who buys it does. I wanted something I can drop, kick, step on (all accidentally of course) without destroying. In this arena the R2 excels. However, about every tenth time I try to send a text message (when I hit the send button) the phone will just go back to my home screen as if I never even typed the darn thing. Other than that, the speaker is loud as all get out, the reception is much better than I'm used to and the battery life and charging times are wonderful. The bluetooth works wonderfully as well. Honestly, no complaints about this phone other than the occasional 'technological slip' I mentioned earlier.
My husband is very picky about his phone, but he really likes this one. The only problem we had was the front cover piece was coming apart. It looked like it got hot and the glue melted. We fixed it with a little gorilla glue and it is great. He really likes that it is user friendly. He does not use it for internet or downloading so we cannot honestly tell you about that part of it. If you are looking for a phone with basic features that are easy to use then this phone is a plus.
