Mrs. Miniver stands up against the Nazis
"Mrs. Miniver" is a great movie that probably no one 25 has ever seen, and that's a shame. The movie, and Greer Garson won Oscars. Greer Garson played Mrs. Miniver. In an era when America was trying to be pacifists and not wanting to get involved in another World War, this movie beautifully shows Britain's gallant fight alone against the Nazi regime. If you have seen the movie before watch it again, it is magnificent. If you have not seen it before, take 90 minutes, sit down and watch this movie. You will not be let down. The brilliant director William Wyler and Teresa Wright also won Oscars for Mrs. Miniver. 5 years later they would work together again in "The Best Years of Our Lives". Mr. Wyler won his second of 3 directorial Oscars for the 1946 epic classic. As "Mrs. Miniver" ... "Mrs. Miniver" is a great movie that probably no one 25 has ever seen, and that's a shame. Awesome Movie
I loved the characters. Mrs. Miniver is an inspiring hero of courage that survived tragedy and danger in War torn Britain during the Second World War. This movie had great drama, well acted characters and heartfelt scenes. I recommend it to anyone who loves vintage movies.

This blockbuster movie from 1942 takes us to the English seaside to a little village where the people try to live their lives while WW2 is going on all around them. Mrs. Kay Miniver (Greer Garson) is the main character, of course. In 1939, she feels guilty about buying a fancy hat, while her husband Clem (Walter Pidgeon) is beating himself up about buying a new car. But they have no idea what awaits them. When their son Vin (Richard Ney) returns from Oxford, he starts dating the granddaughter of the town royalty, Linda Beldon (Teresa Wright). But then the war breaks out. Being so close to the sea, the Minivers cannot help but being thrown into much of the results of it: unexpected airraids, their son's enlistment in the Royal Air Force, their maid's departure for the Women's ... This blockbuster movie from 1942 takes us to the English seaside to a little village where the people try to live their lives while WW2 is going on all around them. This movie was nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won 4 of the most prestigious: Best Actress (Greer Garson), Best Supporting Actress (Teresa Wright), Best Director (William Wyler), and Best Picture. It could have been and probably was a call to arms to fight the remaining months of the war after 1942 and ends with an appeal to buy warbonds. But today, the story is just as good as it was then. A special feature on this DVD shows Greer Garson accepting her Academy Award for Best Actress from the previous year's winner, Joan Fontaine. She talks about joining the Academy and the friendship between Britain and the United States. This movie is well worth your time.

Its main character is Mrs. Miniver, a mother and a wife in England, and it shows her life in pre-war England and into the beginning of the war during the Nazi blitzkrieg. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1942 and is still just as good today. Oh, and if you haven't seen the movie before, don't read the ebay description - it gives away important parts of the plot. Other movies in my DVD collection - The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), American ...
