Snap-on ratchet repair kit RKRAF730 (older version)
This review is for the older RKRAF730 kit. This one is somewhat different from the more modern RKRAF730 kits, one notable difference is that these use the older conical style spring originally used in the older F720 and F730 ratchets. This spring allows for a much softer low back drag action. There's also a oil hole drilled on the anvil, opposite side of the detent ball, which allows for easier oiling of the detent ball. Though that extra hole on the anvil will allow for dirt to enter into the ball & spring detent, so it's a good thing that Snap-On no longer puts those holes in the anvils on the newer kits. My specific kit purchased was made in the early 1990's according to the print date of the repair kit instructions. There are also other minor differences in parts machining between the ... This review is for the older RKRAF730 kit. IMO it's alittle too heavy and long for the depth of the spring hole. I usually trim between 2 to 3 coils off these newer style springs, making them shorter to accommodate the heavier guage wire. That does the trick every time. But the newer spring also does use a connected ball plunger, instead of the older separate ball & spring setup. This eliminates the chance of losing the ball bearing if it were to go flying bye bye "I'm gone". That is one nice feature between the newer kits vs the older RKRAF730 kits. Overall, a nice repair kit, even with having to shorten the new spring.👍
