I love it!
After doing a lot of research on MP3 players I decided that the Nomad Jukebox would be the one for me. If you are not into current top 40 music but like historical as well as current music and you have a ton of CDs in your collection then an MP3 player with a large hard drive is probably what you need too. I have close to 2500 songs on the hard drive and it is about half full. So far, I’ve put about 80% of my CDs on this player. I hook it up to my car, my home entertainment system, and I play it thru ear buds at night to go to sleep. NO more CDs to fool with! Pros:  laptop hard drive is cheap and replaceable  battery is cheap and replaceable (I bought a 2nd one for it)  large capacity  has more functions than the current Creative Labs hard drive MP3 players  scroll function is ... The Creative Zen Xtra 30gb MP3 player is probably the best bargain if you are looking for an MP3 player that has a lot of storage. Averaging between about $95 and $115 on ebay for 30-40gb, the Xtra is a far better buy than the Ipods which average between $200 and $300 for the same storage. One small complaint that I have is the large size of the MP3 player, but for such a low price, the extra bulk was worth it. The only other copmlaint that I have is that when I first started using it, it froze when i turned it on every once in a while, but this is my 3rd year with it, and i havent had any problems with it in the last 2 years.The Creative Zen Xtra 30gb MP3 player is probably the best bargain if you are looking for an MP3 player that has a lot of storage. The 30GB hard drive is adequate. But a larger LCD with color would be an improvement. The battery life could also be extended. Menu navigation is somewhat slow and difficult due to the number of buttons as well as size and sensitivity levels. The PC connection and MediaSource Navigator software works, but is also over-engineered. Size and weight are acceptable. Overall, the Zen is a very good unit.The 30GB hard drive is adequate. Great Product
The nomad jukebox (30, 40, 60 gb) were probably the best mp3 players ever made. They had no bells and whistles-they just played music. The zen sleek was also a good player adding only a microphone and fm radio which was also recordable. When creative came out with the sleek photo and the vision m&w, the circuit board in these newer players was not really designed well enough to support the added functions and the quality/durability of the players suffered quite a bit. These players tended to “freeze” easily. sometimes it was difficult to sync music to the players and if you tried to sync too much music at one time, the players could not accomplish the task. I have a very large collection of music (began collecting in the 50’s) covering all formats ranging from 8 track-r/r-cassette-vinyl-cd. To digitize this music and sync to mp3, I needed to have many mp3 players which were durable with relatively high capacity and relatively easy to “fix”. Most of the mp3 players I have were bought on ebay and “fixed”. sometimes the fix only required getting the player into the recovery mode, cleaning up the hard disc then rebooting. Sometimes the “fix” required getting circuit board parts from radio shack. I was fortunate enough to get the circuit board diagrams for these players and have a little knowledge of electronics. Creative labs no longer supports the nomad or the sleeks. I do not know whether they still support the visions but the visions were useless in my opinion. I have 3 m’s and have never used them-still sitting in the box. But I have 6 60gb jukeboxes, 28 sleeks and 4 sleek photos. I have spent 3 years digitizing the first part of the music collection starting with the vinyls. When they were digitized, the collection (approx. 2500 albums) was sold as a single lot to an “oldie” record store which promptly went out of business. I estimate it will take another 3 years to finish the digitizing process. Because creative no longer supports the nomads or the sleeks, if your firmware (which is not located on the hard drive but on a ram chip on the circuit board) gets corrupted, your mp3 is practically worthless because the only way to fix it is to replace the entire circuit board. However if you are both a computer wiz and electronics wiz, the firmware can be reloaded but you must have a good nomad or sleek in order to do it and it will cost you $$-more than the purchase price of the unit. If you bought a new nomad or sleek and the os got corrupted, you either had to send it back to the factory to reload the os or replace the hd from another good unit which had a good hd but bad circuit board. Creative was and still is very secretive about the source code for their operating systems. The hard drives on these particular mp3 players are practically indestructible. You really have to drop the player on the hard ground or throw it against a wall to break it. The nomads only work with windows os up to xp. If you attempt to connect your nomad to a win 7 or higher os, the chances of your firmware getting corrupted are very high. Takes too much space to explain why, but it basically due to the usb port differences. The nomad is relatively easy to fix-easy to disassemble and replace the battery, easy to replace circuit board parts. The sleeks are very difficult to disassemble. You generally have to try to disassemble one or two, completely ruining them in the process and learning from mistakes. There is one critical step in disassem

Great MP3 Player For The Price
I bought one of these I think 2 years ago, maybe less. I payed $200 for a brand new one. It's $200 for 30GB of storage is a great deal. You'll pay $200 for a 2GB iPod. BUT, the Zen Xtra is big and bulky. It doesn't have nearly as many accessories available to it like the iPods do. Actually, no MP3 player does. I also found that my iPod Nano has MUCH BETTER SOUND QUALITY. I found that weird considering CREATIVE Labs is one of the top Sound Card makers. Overall, if sound quality isn't your top priority like it is for me, the Zen Xtra is great for you.
