    My new favorite!

As a portrait and lifestyle photographer, my go to lens is my 85mm because of the beautiful bokeh and the focal length but I do keep a large variety in my camera bag. I also shoot a lot of sports photos for the local high school (my dad is the athletic director) so I had a 70-300mm to get right in the action. Recently, that old lens of mine has been slower and showing it's age and usage so I started shopping around to replace it. I always wanted a wider aperture for those night time football games and this is perfect! I haven't used any of my other lenses since I got it! It's been great for outdoor and studio portraits AND all those action shots! It's fast and works perfectly with the auto focus on my camera. I'm so happy I added this to my collection!

  • tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens

The Tamron lens is a huge leap from the kit lens. I have a 50-200 f4-5.6 lens that came with my Pentax KX and its a whole different camera with the upgrade. As far as the build quality...I would guess that with the amount of use (about once a week) and with some moderate care, I expect this lens will last me 7-10 years. OUTSTANDING PICTURES this lens has made me look like I know what I'm doing...The biggest improvement is with animals, the shutter speed is much faster with the larger aperture and birds are actually crystal clear in flight. Portrait pictures look stunning with more depth of field. Carrying the extra size and weight are well worth it. I chose Pentax because of the value in lenses. As far as I'm concerned I can take as well of a picture with my kit as with ...

  • Fast glass

Great lens. My first f/2.8 glass. Really enjoying its wide aperture capabilities and being able to take depth of field shots. It is forcing me to be more critical of shutter speed and focus. I have previously rented a Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS lens. This lens seems to hold up well against the fancy white name brand glass.

  • Great price for the quality.

Went to Veterans Day Parade to use lens for the first time. This is my first really good lens. It is heaver than I thought it was going to be, but not too heavy to walk around with, and hand hold. For me the quality of the pictures were just excellent. The focus was very fast, and accurate. I was shooting people who were walking and marching around. I also used the manual focus which was very smooth. For me it is an excellent price for the quality. I can't compare it to a Canon lens because I have not used any of there top end lenses. Since I don't make money at my photography I am more than happy with this lens for the price. If I ever start making money in my hobby I would certainly look at the Canon lenses. For now I am thrilled with this lens.

  • Inconsistent sharpness and a loose fit at the lens mount. Bad copy? Maybe.

This lens appeared to be a great product. Solid build, operates smoothly. Initial tests show erratic focusing/sharpness with all subject-matter including subjects in good sunlight with copious areas of contrast. Sometimes the images are spot-on sharp but more than 50% of the time they are slightly out-of-focus. I have tested the lens on several different camera bodies including 60D, 40D and 5D. I'm getting the same results. One thing I have noticed with all three camera bodies is that the lens doesn't lock down tight on the camera lens mount. Slight twisting pressure on the lens results in movement at the mount. Maybe I just got a bad copy. I'm sending this one back and will try another one. If I get the same results with the replacement I will opt for a different product.
