    More solo Anderson than Tull, but still pretty good

    Although under the Jethro Tull title I'd argue this album is, like Homo Erraticus, an Ian Anderson project, as evidenced by his elderly visage on the packaging. Almost a concept album like Homo too. Anderson provides virtually all the input in terms of song writing and much of the performing. Not a bad thing, as Anderson is a witty and erudite lyricist covering complex themes with a little more maturity than in the classic Tull years. The mellow tracks work better than the ones which attempt rocking out. I'd argue that, like Nick Cave, he delves into darker aspects of the human condition and does it well in his typically cantankerous manner. Only downsides include his voice not being what it was, unsurprisingly, but most of the tracks are very listenable and melodic. As a general comment ...

    Surprisingly good addition to the body of work.

    The first half is very good indeed! I would have preferred Florian's excellent guitar work a bit louder in the mix. Unmistakenly Jethro Till, irrespective of personnel.

    A good additional to the Tull catalogue.

    I my view this is the best of the last 3 Ian Anderson albums. Thick as a Brick 2 has not yet triggered great enthusiasm from me. Homo Erraticus was better but tends to use variations of the same musical themes too much. This album is more varied and appeals to be more. At times i wish the keyboards were brighter but, overall, I think it is pretty good.

    Thank God for Jethro Tull.

    Love it, the more you listen the better it gets.Back to a concept album, each track taking inspiration from the Bible. Very deep and educational and of course the music is superb again. I now know who Mrs Tibbets was and the awful consequences of the Little Boy.
