Released in the first quarter of 2008 as part of the Wolfdale line, this processor handles very demanding software. Built upon the trustworthy frame of Intel Core microarchitecture, the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 offers an array of technologies. Its features work together to maintain the smooth operation of the computing environment. Built for use with LGA775/T socket motherboards, this 45-nanometer dual-core runs at a speed of 3.16 GHz. It also utilizes a 6 MB L2 cache. Because a CPU of this type has a high-frequency multiplier (9.5x), the Duo E8500 is overclocked to 4 GHz. This is accomplished by combining it with a sufficient cooling system and changing certain settings in the BIOS. The front-side bus (FSB) clocks in at 1333MHz, allowing for rapid exchanges of data between the dual core and the memory controller hub. The instruction set of the chip is 64-bit and capable of virtualization when multiple users are employing the same system. Desktop users use DDR2 or DDR3 versions of 4GB RAM modules in conjunction with the hardware. With such impressive specifications, this Core optimizes the efficiency of the read and write operations of the hard drive.The Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 sports several impressive technologies that help make the user’s workflow more efficient, such as Intel’s Advanced Smart Caching. This feature allows the processor to take advantage of dynamic allocation of the L2 cache with a peak transfer rate of 96 GB/s. The Wide Dynamic Execution enables it to execute more instructions within each clock cycle.     Best Dual Core upgrade for a G41 machine

    I used this to upgrade a 10 year old e-Machines Celeron PC which was performing awful. According to benchmarks this cpu scored about 40% better than the Celeron E3400 that it was running. The computer is used for regular office tasks as well as web browsing. Adding this CPU and increasing the RAM to 4GB made an abismal difference, it runs extremely smooth now. A really inexpensive way to give new life to a system. 100% Recommended, however if your motherboard supports core 2 quads then you should definitely go for one of those instead, they perform much better than this and the cost is not much higher, but keep in mind those need higher voltages and better cooling.

    Excelent processor for OC

    Where can I begin about the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500? This processor is absolutely amazing. At stock speeds it blasts on the other Dual Core chips and puts up a noble fight with the Quad Core Q6600. Overclocked, this thing is a beast. I mean just look at the scores, it smokes the competition without even acknowledging that they were there. On the overclocking this has to be by far the easiest chip to overclock especially when paired up with Intel's X38 chipset. The Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 is based on the LGA 775 pin configuration and features a 3.16GHz clock speed, 6MB L2 Cache, and a 1333MHz bus speed.     Cheap Upgrade for Aging PC

    A dual core CPU that breaks 7.X on the Windows 7 Experience Index!!

    I bought this CPU with the hope of finding a dual core CPU that would deliver 7.X performance on the Windows 7 Experience Index rating... I'd never found a dual core CPU, Intel or AMD, that could score above 6.9, even overclocked. Well, that's fixed now. 7.0 at 416MHz X 9.5 (3.953GHz) FSB=1666MHz Vcore=1.28 Air cooled.     A great performing processor for the money

    I wanted to build me a good Windows XP gaming computer from the 2008-2009 era. With this CPU, it runs all of my all time favorite older game titles that were designed for Windows XP very well. This is a cheap, well worth it solution.
