This model is a perfect size for easy pocket carrying, however, the same small size makes it challenging to hold steady while snapping pictures. The shutter delay makes it possible to snap the pic, then hold the camera as still as possible for the shutter releasse. This same shutter delay must also be taken into consideration for subjects in action. Plan ahead as to where the subject will be and what they may be doing about a full second after you press the button. Timing can be everything. I am hoping to get some usable shots from underwater, but haven't yet tried any. The manual in paper form which comes with the camera is very basic. More detailed information must be gotten from the DVD included with the package. Ours was a factory refurbished unit, and we are not able to set the correct date. The instructions do not address this, but address only first time use. I am surprised that this 10 MG camera does not produce good enough resolution for poster enlargements. Poster size 11 x 17 is about the maximum advised for this unit. Overall, I am pleased with the capabilities of this unit. I am not disappointed with Olympus quality.Read full review
I bought this waterproof camera about a month ago specifically for kayaking. Have taken it out couple of times now. It does very well for shots of other people, easy to use, not worried about getting it wet. However, tried to take closeups of some wildlife and was very hard to frame due to the lighting and the screen. I couldn't see what was on the screen due to the glare....so it was point, shoot and hope. That didn't turn out so well. But, for the $100 price , I didn't expect a great shot. It will be fine for running rapids etc... Don't intend to "dunk it", but it did get some water on it and no problems....Pictures are crisp and clear. I'd buy it again, and I would recommend it.
I think this product is a solid four stars and accomplished all of its purpose well. Its not going to replace your everyday camera--the pics are just not as sharp or high-quality as you'd expect from a 10 MP camera. But it was great for our vacations and being jostled around near the beach or pool. We took it rafting, kayaking, swimming, and snorkeling. It took better underwater shots than other low price-point waterproof cameras b/c it has a flash and an LCD screen to line up the shot rather than a tiny viewfinder that you won't be able to see throug underwater or with a mask on. The non-wet shots were definitely OK too. For my family, they were good enough so that we could just take this as our exclusive camera for vacation since our main goal is capturing memories. But I know plenty of people who are really into photography and are looking to capture photographic masterpieces on their vacation. If that's you, you're going to need another camera for when you're on dry ground.Read full review
I'm a long time photo enthusiast, and that being said, anyone looking to buy an underwater cam has to realize there will be quite a few trade-offs in features and image quality. For what this camera is and how I intend to use it, I have to give it 4stars overall. Image quality isn't anything spectacular, but far better than any cell cam ever made. And which is this camera's main goal for me.......small and portable, to be used around wet environs like the beach and pool, during the day. Who cares if it sucks indoors without flash? When are you most likely to use it, seriously? In conclusion, I reccomend this only as a compliment to another more serious camera, not as a replacement or your "only" digicam.
I bought this camera several years ago @ $179.00. Pretty eazy to take anywhere. Weight is low super eazy to use. About 18months after I bought this I had it in a warm ocean. The temp change from ocean to air caused condensation to form on the inside of the lens. It had been in ocean water sseveral times before the foul up. Camera still works but, A spot shows up in low lighting. I just bought this new exact camera on Ebay for $40.00ish very pleased with it!. It's not going to give you sharp pro photos. When I bought my 1st one 10mp was about the highest mp you could buy. This Will still give you a light weight go anywhere camera better pics then most cell phones. Great vid in/out of water.
