A great gaming monitor that falls short in most other areas...
I will attempt to make this short and sweet, although that has never been my strong suit. This monitor is fantastic for gaming, but falls short in many other areas. For one, the contrast is fantastic and visually appealing, featuring impressive and uniform black levels. These are qualities that go hand-in-hand with a VA panel. Unfortunately, it comes up short in the viewing angles department. Even with the curve, the picture looks noticeably different (to my eyes) on the far left and right corners of the screen. It washes out slightly, and just doesn't look the same as it does in the center. Also, I found the color reproduction to be only so-so vs an IPS panel. The colors weren't bad, but they were not on par with the vibrant colors that a good IPS panel can produce. Give these ... Give these shortcomings, I did not find this to be much of an upgrade from my old smaller IPS panel, even with the improved refresh rate and black levels. I adjusted the settings and calibrated the monitor, but this only helped slightly. The bottom line here is this. This monitor exemplifies all of the bad qualities of a VA panel, as well as the good ones. Black levels, great! Contrast, damn good! Color reproduction? so-so. Viewing angles? poor. For gaming, some of these short falls were less noticeable, but for general computing they really stood out for me. I had to return the monitor. My personal preference? Stick with a high end IPS panel. Pros: - Contrast / black levels - Solid refresh rate - Nice design and available USB 3 ports - Quality build - Very good for gaming Cons: - Overall color reproduction - Viewing angles / uniformity across entire screen poor - Text clarity - Would be poor for graphic design
