Well made except for one defect. This would not show up in a small photo - everything is black.
This product works normally. However, it is clearly defective even though sold as new. The gate to the ground coffee holder cannot be opened without using a tool such as a very small screwdriver because it fits very tightly.(Has not loosed up after over 5 weeks of use.) The tool must be both thin and strong. Anything less such as a long fingernail will not do it because it fits so tightly when closed. I see no cause for this other than a design problem. Using a small tool does place unequal stress on top where I pry it open (the only crack big enough to do this.) I suppose in time this will wear out the hinge and the door will break off. Good machine, but no permanent filter available
I think this machine makes a great cup of coffee, but it has a couple of quirks: 1) The #4 filters don't quite fit it properly, so water drips down the outside and onto the warming plate, making a sizzling noise. 2) Probably for the same reason, none of the permanent filters seem to fit it properly. 3) The coffee pot lid broke when I tried to remove it for cleaning, but it's OK - it still works OK. 4) It's hard to get the gate open to change the filter - you have to stick a fingernail into the left side of the gate while pulling on the tab. On the bright side, I haven't had any of the problems that others talked about regarding the espresso maker side - it works easily and quickly and makes a fine cup of espresso. The foaming arm also works fine and ... Krups XP-1500 is ok, but not perfect
I got this from my wife as a present but I think she is the one who wanted the espresso feature. I prefer coffee. It gets used to make coffee every day but in the last six months, we have only used it to make espresso two times. As far as I am concerned, it is too much work to make espresso and then clean the machine afterward. If you don't get the nozzle completely clean, it will plug up. Putting ground coffee in the other side can be a bit bothersome at times. The basket does not swing out with the greatest of ease. I have even put vegetable oil on the parts that hold it in so that it will not be so difficult to open. Another annoying little thing is that moisture accumulates on the front and if it is not wiped off every time, it leaves a white calcium residue. I've tried to ... Krups XP1500/1530
I've owned many Krups machines and this is my second dual espresso/coffee maker. By far Krups makes the best espresso of all the machines I have owned and a couple of times I've even reached the level of a Starbucks cup. I'm a true coffee lover I drink it for the love of the brew so not just any cup will do and that's where Krups comes in. Now this particular machine does a very good job of brewing a regular cup of coffee but I have actually gotten a better cup of espresso from their low end stand alone machine. Now don't get me wrong that's not to say that this machine doesn't brew a cup that is up to standard just not better than standard which is still saying alot. You won't be disappointed with the XP1500 the only short coming I could find is that you have to brew one pot at a time. ... The machine has a single switch that you take from espresso to regular coffee or vis a vie the last machine I had had dual switchs so I didn't have to wait between making my latte and a regular pot of coffee. I sort of miss that feature. But don't hesitate to buy this if your just starting out or it fits your income you won't be disappointed. Just remember this type of machine needs to be delimed regularly.

compact coffee and espresso machine
This is a good product. The first couple of brews tasted a little weak. I have no idea why because I am brewing the same brand of coffee in the same amounts. However, now the coffee tastes very good. The filter cup is a little tricky to get in and out, but I got the hang of it. Anyway, the product is worth the price. I am enjoying it.
