First off, so there is no mistake, this is not in itself a game. It is a tool, as the name implies. Using maps, dialog editors and menus, this product allows you to create a role playing game that can be played on the PS2. In this it succeeds very nicely. The selections of music are large without being intimidatingly vast, the image gallery and monsters, though somewhat limited, are well varied. Where it falls down is it locks the would-be game maker into a specific template, namely swords and sorcery, and requires that the original tool disc be in the drive in order to use any of your creations. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to share your creation on the Internet with other would-be game designers or from using your creation as a demo for a possible employer. By using pre-fab'ed monsters and music scores, you, the designer, are kept from designing your own look and sound for the game-in-the-making. For what it is meant to do, it does it well. In my opinion, the next generation of RPG maker could benefit from having a CD ripper application built in, a self-containing subroutine so the game could be played on a PC or Mac platform and a freeform character and background designer option that allows the designer to choose from either pre-fab'ed backgrounds and monsters or to make his or her own using a USB device or the analog joysticks on the controller.Read full review
The amount of content is maybe limited, what you cannot do miracle, but serioulsly, the simple fact that you can build your own RPG game, in 3D, is enought to say that this "game" is great! When I was younger, I used to use RPG Maker 2003/XP, and even if this one is more limited, you can still do a lot of thing and create the world and story you want! The graphics is kind of really basic, but the soundtrack is surprising good for this type of game! The field editor is really (too)complex and you can create landscape you want (With a lot of work). The only bad point I could said is how much we are limited in the amount of object we can place around the world. I recommend it to anyone who ever dreamed to create a 3D fantasy world, and to people who have a lot of patience!
I purchased this item in all honesty for my girls' little brother. He has been working on trying to make his own game lately and I though this would be a great game for him to get into. Christmas came and went and he kept telling me how cool it was, so one day I stopped by his house to see the world that he had started to create. He ran me through the basics of what I had created then asked if I wanted to mess around with it for a while... FATAL MISTAKE WHEN YOU HAVE SOMEWHERE TO BE! I sat down at around 6:30, didn't think that it would be a big deal that I had to be somewhere at around 8:00. I was wrong... I got so lost in messing with the editor and ended up being like an hour late! There are so many options, so many things to customize and the user options are really easy to use (there are tool-tips everywhere to help out with what you need to do). You can name and create all your own characters/NPC's/monsters/special attacks/items!!! It goes on and on! You can easily burn an hour or two just making your first character! Since then, I went on to Ebay and located another copy of this game for myself. I can see now that I am going to be very busy for quite some time! So far, I have only found one bad thing about this game; you have to manually type in all the storyline by selecting each letter from a keyboard on the screen. VERY, VERY TEDIOUS, but I hear that you can hook a keyboard up to your PS2 to avoid having to do this. I would without a doubt give this game a five star, or very high four star rating!Read full review
RPG Maker 3 is for anyone who loves a good RPG game, or has ever dreamed of making their own. All the tools are here and a little more. The "in game" charater models aren't that impressive, but the artwork that portrase the characters is very good... or bad dippending on which one you choose... All in all, it's a very fun game! A little hard at first, but very enjoyable. I recomend it for any fan of RPG's!
For those of you gamers that are really wanting to write your own game the "RPG Maker 3" is a great place to start. Those this are difficulty for some, like myself to use they do exactly what they are intended to do, write playable games. Have fun and put your game making skills to the test.
