    Good unit, very frustrating to program. Be prepared to be spoken to like a child by First Alert.

    So I bought 4 of these for assorted locations in my home. The instructions are fairly simple to install EXCEPT the instructions DO NOT tell you how to program the location of the alarm. When you test it the alarm will say "Evacuate, smoke detected in ....( you can program you location to verbalize here.) As I said, the directions have no script as to how to do this. I called First Alert and asked how to do this. I was spoken to like I was a first grader and told, "It's fairly simply, I'm making this as easy as I can for you." After trying to do what I was instructed to do three times and being put on hold for three minutes twice I was then directed, by the person from First Alert, to try it again and if you have more trouble please call back again and we'll be happy to assist you.     First Alert Talking Alarm, is my choice I have three

    This appears to be a good fire alarm before you go to the internet maintained smart ones at a more significant price. I have three and they work well. Sometimes clean them with compressed air if they introduce false alerts. They do use both voice and alarm for alters, and are battery powered.
