    Dutch Treat --- What a treat it is!

    I'm currently making a quilt using 4" blocks and was looking for some unique designs. I sure found them in this gem of a book! The designs are unusual and beautiful. The book suggests reverse applique, but I've found that for most, traditional applique will work just as well. The blue and white designs shown are gorgeous, but have fun experimenting with your fabric stash. I am currently working with reproduction Civil War prints, but can imagine how nice some of these would turn out using batiks, 30's prints, or other fabrics. This is definitely a keeper!!!

    Dutch Treat by Judy Garden (2004)

    I love miniature quilts so I used to be part of a Small Block Sisters Quilting Bee, 6" or less, and these blocks qualified because they are 6" with a 4" reverse applique in the center. One of the ladies had this book and was making the blocks. They are just beautiful in white and navy blue or indigo blue. I have not started any of the blocks yet but I look forward to it. I bought this book because I've always wanted to learn reverse applique. This book has 196 great patterns to practice on. I should be pretty good by the time I finish all of them.

    I love this book, the idea of making a quilt of many shades of blue is simple, fun, and easy.

    Dutch Treat by Judy Garden (2004)

    Dutch Treat is a pattern book with reverse applique blocks. The author calls it recessed applique, which is a better descriptive term for this type of applique. The directions are clear, but it would have been nice to have photographs rather than simple drawings of the process.
