Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer are David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls, respectively--three clueless, self-absorbed men who form the nucleus of Spinal Tap, aging purveyors of overwrought songs with titles such as "Big Bottom," "Smell the Glove," and "Sex Farm." Shot in faux cinema verité-style with director Rob Reiner as fictional filmmaker Marty DiBergi, the film lampoons just about every rock & roll cliché (not to mention every rockumentary cliché) in the book as it follows these fallen rock idols from one disastrous gig to the next. Scenes of the tour's descent from desperation into total collapse are interspersed with interviews in which the band members delightfully prattle on inanely about the none-too-illustrious history and dubious vision of Spinal Tap. THIS IS SPINAL TAP is a striking and acutely hysterical directorial debut for Reiner and a deserved cult classic. Watch for an endless array of cameos by wonderful comic character actors along the way.

rockumentary I loved it
I will admitthat I really did think this band was real, and had to be talked to for half an hour and then rewatch it to believe, his was a fantastic film & if someone did not tell you ahead of time and you just turned it o n you would be just like me. Exellent direction, and casting of this film made it so believeable. I hope you get the chance to view this movie/rockumentary for yourself. A must see.....
This Is Spinal Tap is one of those cult classic movies that every "child of the eighties" should see. I bought it because some how, strange as it may seem, neither my best friend nor I had seen it! If you were ever a fan of "hair metal" or hated it, or grew up during the eighties and can appreciate satire, you have to see this! (And then when people make reference to it, i.e. the drummer dieing, you won't be like me standing there saying, "Huh?"!!!!!)This Is Spinal Tap is one of those cult classic movies that every "child of the eighties" should see. I bought it because some how, strange as it may seem, neither my best friend nor I had seen it! A good movie.
I bought this for my sister for christmas and overall, it was a great movie. However, DVD would be better than VHS just for the features and better picture quality.

A movie classic
The first time I saw this movie I thought to myself "this can't be real". But the whole time I was thinking "this could be real". This is a brilliant "rockumentary" about a heavy metal band thought up by comedic geniuses. Buy this movie, and tell me you didn't split a gut when you saw the "stonehenge monument in danger of being trampled by dwarves". Brilliant!
