Another adventure?
I am a long time motorcycle traveller (I did not own a car until I was 30) and very much enjoyed Long Way Round, both the book and the DVD. This latest adventure, again, very enjoyable to watch though I did not enjoy the book as much as the first one........a little boring, very much matter of fact. I have the greatest respect for Charley & Ewan and those who assisted in the trips. Clearly there was a lot of excitement along the way, they faced many challenges and got to see a lot of wild life up close and personal - and then there were the personal encounters with those with so little economic wealth and yet a richness in personality. Indeed we have found on our own travels through North Africa that those with the least material wealth are often those with the biggest smiles? Reading ... Reading the first book gave a much greater insight into the two main characters - an insight I felt with which I could make a connection - hell, Charley and I are the same age, have shared some of the same motorcycles even and definately share similar outlooks. These details having been covered in the first book were superflous for the second so obviously were left out. I think that to get the best out of the latest book it is important to also watch the DVD. The obvious success of these adventures have clealry been felt at BMW's headquarters in Munich as it is apparent from the amount of GSs one now sees on the road all loaded up with camping gear. For almost 20 years I have been signing the praises of these bikes, but secretly enjoyed the novelty factor of riding something a little different - only trouble now is that they seem to be on every corner - damm! If this duo should embark on another adventure I'll be sure to tune in again.

I bought this book becasue I loved Long Way Round, which was the pair's first traveling adventure. I had heard some very mixed, not so great reviews about this new book but I decieded that I wanted to read it for myself to form my own opinon. I am so glad that I did becasue I thought that it was another great tale of the guys travels. What I like so much about following their adventures is the way they strive to interact with the people that they meet on thier journey's. So many people today are concerned with only themselves and don't seem to have the time for others, yet Charley and Ewan go looking for just the types of adventures which will bring them into contact with all types of different people in different cultures. It was from their first book that I really learned that UNICEF is so much more then just another "Help The Children" organization where the children never acutally see the money or benefits from. Since their first book I myself have reached out to help UNICEF in the ways that I can. Reading their adventures about what they see and go through makes a person, or at least me, really appreciate what it is that I have in this life and realize just how hard it really is for many people. I also realize just how kind people in other cultures who basically have nothing are, and sadly just how selfish some of us can really be. Their books bring to life a culture and a people that I myself might never have known since I highly doubt I could ever travel to Africa, Uganda, Mongolia or Kazakstan .... I'm ashamed to say that I never really paid much attention to the other parts of the world, but I do now and it is because of what I learned about these other people through the eyes of Charley and Ewan, reading their books and watching their motorcycle journeys. I really hope they contuine to make these types of films and write these types of books as I am really looking forward to their next adventure. And of course, when I couldn't find the book in print here in the states I turned to EBAY becasue I knew that I would find it there. The book has since been published in the states but I still got it cheaper (including shipping) from ebay. GO EBAY!

The film/doc is great !! Even if you don't like motorcycles, the trip down from Scotland to South Africa is super interesting, their charity work and places they visit are a must !! The film will inspire anyone to actually get up and do something,more so if you are an avid motorcycle rider... Much better than the first ride, the Long way round, but still as interesting (and practice makes perfect)The film/doc is great !! Even if you don't like motorcycles, the trip down from Scotland to South Africa is super interesting, their charity work and places they visit are a must !! The film will inspire anyone to actually get up and do something,more so if you are an avid motorcycle rider... Much better than the first ride, the Long way round, but still as interesting (and practice makes perfect)

Superb Journey in the Company of Friends
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. Ewan and Charlie make outstanding friends and their journey is nothing short of fascinating. This book is a quick read and offers a glimpse into not only the logistical trials of undertaking a journey of this nature, but more importantly, the quest to discover one's self and to strengthen the bonds of a once-in-a-lifetime friendship. Bravo!!!

Long Way Down
I liked this book because it gives you more details of their trip then the movie or the tv series. I have watched them both and you really get a good overall sense of the trip. If i just read the book then I would miss out on alot. If you like Long Way Round then this book is very similar
