An entertaining how-to book, but a bit dated!
Judy Carter's volume, Stand-Up Comedy: The Book, is entertaining, if only to read the jokes of the top-tier comedians she sprinkles throughout the text. This is not a comedy book, however, it is a pseudo-workbook about how to DO and write stand-up comedy. Carter's instructional approach and terminology in this book, published in 1989, significantly differs from her later work: The Comedy Bible (2001). If you only have enough money to purchase one, I suggest the latter. If you are buying this book to learn the art of stand-up, her approach can be a bit condescending at times. alright book
The book was in passable shape when I received it. No tears, rips. There is writing on some of the Workshop exercises.. Received it June 1st. I have skimmed throug it & seems to be exactly what I want. I bought This book DOES have a lot of information. The Comedy Bible along with this book. Just started using it. I am disappointed about the writing. Need to pay attention to the condition next time.The book was in passable shape when I received it. No tears, rips.
