About this product

Product Information

#1 "New York Times "bestselling author Diana Gabaldon has captivated millions of readers with her critically acclaimed Outlander novels, the inspiration for the Starz original series. From the moment Claire Randall stepped through a standing stone circle and was thrown back in time to the year 1743--and into a world that threatens life, limb, loyalty, heart, soul, and everything else Claire has--readers have been hungry to know everything about this world and its inhabitants, particularly a Scottish soldier named Jamie Fraser. In this beautifully illustrated compendium of all things Outlandish, Gabaldon covers the first four novels of the main series, including: - full synopses of "Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, "and "Drums of Autumn" - a complete listing of the characters (fictional and historical) in the first four novels in the series, as well as family trees and genealogical notes - a comprehensive glossary and pronunciation guide to Gaelic terms and usage - the fully explicated Gabaldon Theory of Time Travel - frequently asked questions to the author and her (sometimes surprising) answers - an annotated bibliography - essays about medicine and magic in the eighteenth century, researching historical fiction, creating characters, and more - professionally cast horoscopes for Jamie and Claire For anyone who wants to spend more time with the Outlander characters and the world they inhabit, Diana Gabaldon here opens a door through the standing stones and offers a guided tour of what lies within.

    Perfect book for Outlander fan

This is the perfect book to have if you are a Outlander fan. It has everything from a synopsis of the first few book, to the Gaelic translations. It shows maps and pictures of places and items from the books. My favorite section that I use again and again, is the Cast of Characters section that gives the names and background of all the characters in the books. The family trees and research sections also help answer question many readers form in their minds while reading.

  • Companion book to Outlander allows a better understanding of 18th century customs

For anyone following the Outlander series on TV or reading the books, this companion is a great thing to have at hand. I first checked a copy out of the library but soon realized I really wanted to have it to refer to at any time. That meant buying my own copy. There are plenty of words or customs that are not current to our time, and the companion explains them. Just reading the books or watching the episodes is very entertaining, but I enjoy going a little deeper into the past. This book allows that.

  • A Great Value with Wonderful Features

I am loving my Outlandish Companion Book Volume 1. So much so, that I ordered Volume 2, too. It's really great! It goes over all of the events in each book. There is a list of characters. There is genealogy Charts for all of the characters. I am at the end now. It is going over Gaelic. All of the terms are presented. There is pronunciation marks and meanings. It covers the first 4 books in detail. I am loving this book!

  • Great reference book!

This book absolutely helps me out when I am reading and there is a location or a custom, or speech that I don't remember from reading the books the first time. I like being one up and knowing what to expect in the book. The Outlandish Companion is well written an organized in such a way that it is easy for me to find what I want to know and I can get back to my book right away. It's more detailed than I would have thought it to be, and actually includes more than I think the book has in it. (Like in one area I was reading some practices or beliefs from the Middle East and the only reference to that in the book is when some of the Scots fought the Turks. But it was interesting to know) I actually plan on sitting down and just reading the book through like I would one of her novels... To me ...

  • Great companion tome for any Outlander fan

If you’ve dissected all the novels, the Stars TV series, and all the other supplementary literature on the subject of the hugely popular Outlander, and you’re still anxious to add to your knowledge, try this companion tome, a huge book filled with plenty of odds and ends about the storyline, the history, and Scotland. And if you can add it to your library for a mere five dollars and change, it’s a great value as well.
