    Good for hardware and components

    Solid introductory book with good illustrations. I'm just getting in to the hobby and found it helpful. I could have used some different projects - most of these are like creating alarms or making an LED flash, but I guess it's easy enough to google projects. If you're looking for a book that gives you info about arduino you should probably look elsewhere as he doesn't really go into anything like that (although there are some coding projects in the book, they use a different system). But the explanations of how passive components work are very helpful. I think if you combine this with the forest mims book you'll have a pretty good base for making some interesting projects.

    Platt-oneer in Electronics

    Charles Platt might be the greatest teacher on the planet.. Might be. I recently found out about this book by purchasing a Make Magazine at Barnes & Nobles for the heck of it. Although the cover page was dedicated to 3D Printer's, inside was an excerpt from Make:Electronics. The nerdo inside me was intrigued. Not only by the Experiment (i think it was the time Relay) but by the entire magazine. One day, i hope to build my own 3D Printer but first want to grasp the basics of electronics. This book starts off with the basics but digs deeper as you build on what you have learned. As an education major, I sincerely appreciate Platt's learning by discovery teaching style. This text is an example of master-teaching at its best. He knows his stuff and provides many insightful examples ...

    Make Electronics is one of the best

    Charles Platt: Make Electronics is always good material. This is an older publication, but a great refresher book. He's an accomplished electronics writer.

    Perfect for the Beginning Adult Enthusiast!

    While the book is certainly kid friendly, the non-gimmicky delivery ensures a quality, engrossing read for the adult looking to explore the basics of electronics. Platt dives right into experimenting and explains the theories surrounding it, a method that makes understanding of the concepts so much more visceral and indelible than other books I've read. Makes electronics exciting, hands-on and memorable! Highly recommended.
