About this product

Product Information

Unleash the song of your soul with Zen Guitar , a contemplative handbook that draws on ancient Eastern wisdom and applies it to music and performance. Each of us carries a song inside us, the song that makes us human. Zen Guitar provides the key to unlocking this song--a series of life lessons presented through the metaphor of music. Philip Sudo offers his own experiences with music to enable us to rediscover the harmony in each of our lives and open ourselves to Zen awareness uniquely suited to the Western Mind. Through fifty-eight lessons that provide focus and a guide, the reader is led through to Zen awareness. This harmony is further illuminated through quotes from sources ranging from Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to Miles Davis. From those who have never strummed a guitar to the more experienced, Zen Guitar shows how the path of music offers fulfillment in all aspects of life--a winning idea and an instant classic.

Expecting to learn quite a bit from this book.

I just got this book, so I can't say too much about it so far. It was recommended to me by a music instructor that I admire. I'm not a guitar player but understand there are useful tings for all players. As a new musician, it is easy to try to go in too many directions at once. I've already got a new mantra from this book: "To be obsessed with the destination is to lose the focus from where you are". I bought the book used, and it is in nice shape.

  • Excellent Book of Teaching for the Music Approach

An excellent book for any musician who approaches music with an open mind and open heart. Being a musician more than a religious follower, I was initially sceptical of a book that claims to teach the spiritual aspects of music. However I must attest that everytime I have faltered in my music or just needed an uplifting positive and progressive thinking voice to seek solace in, this book has proved to be profoundly useful. It is everything a music teacher should be, minus the technical aspects of music teaching. Although this book does not contain any scales, or theories of music, its teachings of the music approach and attitude towards oneself and ones arts, can be extended even onto other aspects of life that are irrelevant to music. I highly recommend the Zen Guitar to not only ...

  • Zen Guitar

This book is required reading for my guitar and vocal students. There is not a note of music in it, it's all about how you think and connect with music...and life. On more than one occasion a parent has told me they bought a copy of their own. A wonderful quick read, it is a tad on the esoteric side, chapters rang from a paragraph to no more than 3 pages. I carry a copy with me and tell people to just flip it open and read, it usually sparks some curiosity. S.P. roadhousegrooves.com

  • Great book for any guitar player!!!

Phenomenal book for any guitar player; especially those just starting out! -This isn’t a techno book; but rather one that gives some guidance on how to approach learning, practicing, and studying the guitar.
