Helpful book with real solutions
I love the way this book is written, depicting real life situations and then telling practical ways of handling the challenge. It is very insightful, teaching about the temperament of your child and the parents temperament. Then it teaches loving, gentle but firm ways to implement treating certain behaviors. This book has become my "bible". I've taken notes and posted them on the fridge. Also, I've made posters to use as reminders of what I've learned and to remind me how to implement these new techniques. These methods have been used now for only 2 months with my 4 year old and we are all much happier, positive and she has become better behaved, but most of all her self worth and attitude is changing and becoming more positive. I feel like I got my relationship back with my kiddo because of this book.
It sounds like exaggeration to say this book saved my relationship with my 3.5 year old daughter, but I believe in many ways it has. We were deadlocked in power struggles, mood swings, sensitivity, and energy differences all the time. We were constantly dealing with 'red zones' on both our parts. I had heard "the threes" were hard, but it just seemed like we were having an extra dose of difficulty. I was so far beyond feeling like a 'natural parent' and many days it was a struggle to just make it through. My friend, a parent of another spirited child, recommended this to me and it has been a total game changer. As someone who is initially skeptical of things I wasn't so sure if this book was legitimate or not, but after reading nearly 400 pages it all settled in. Now, having seen the ... Couldn't be a Better Book on the Subject-IT WORKS!
I bought this book because it is not only a guide for helping me raise my spirited child but a tool/handbook we use and go back to often for different situations that arise. If you read the cover or first few pages of this book and even BEGIN to get emotinal... this book is for YOU! Tobe honest I think EVERY parent should read this book because ALL kids show signs of being spirited at times and this would help for those times... those of us with kids who are spirited 24/7 can get worn out and stressed out and this book helps keep some of the sanity! The tools and guidence in this book WORK and help in so much of our everyday life... I couldn't be more thankful. Now I just want a hardcover version since we're going back to it so much that it's going to get worn quickly! I also have those ... This book is helpful in teaching about the different aspects of a child's moods and it gives also insights on how to deal with them. The book was recommended to me by a counselor in my child's school. I find it really accurate in its description and explanations of every stage and mood of the sensitive child.
