About this product

Product Information

This text provides a balanced, well-organized treatment of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, making thermal physics interesting and accessible to anyone who has completed a year of calculus-based introductory physics. Part I introduces essential concepts of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics from a unified view, applying concepts in a select number of illustrative examples. Parts II and III explore further applications of classical thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. Throughout, the emphasis is on real-world applications.

  • Very understandable intro to thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

It's the required text for my undergrad thermo and stat mech course, and I can just sit down and read it fairly comfortably. It's a great place to start.

  • Good, with small flaw.

It has the slightest hint of vomit/stale textbook smell. I don't know if it's because it was used by a frequent sneezer, or books all just smell like this, but it gives me a headache. However, the pages are clean, straight, and all the useful information is still here so I cannot complain.

  • Good textbook, easy to understand

I bought this book for an undergraduate physics class and am quite happy with it so far. The text is understandable and the questions are reasonably straight-forward. I did buy the international edition, which is paperback and printed on cheaper paper, but all the content is the same so far.

  • Abridged and incomplete

This is about a hundred pages shorter than the non-international edition book. The last chapter is missing.
