The Opal Deception
Criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl is back...and so is his cunning enemy, Opal Kobol. At the start of the fourth adventure, Artemis has returned to his unlawful ways. He's in Berlin, perparing to steal a famous impressionist painting from a German bank. He has no idea that his old rival, Opal, has escaped from prison by cloning herself. She's left her double behind in jail and, now free, is exacting her revenge on all those who put her there, including Artemis. Meanwhile in the lower elements, Opal has planted a trap for Captain Holly Short and Commander Root of the LEPrecon fairy police--Root is killed, and Holly is framed for the murder. Instead of staying around to defend herseld, Holly rushes to the surface to warn Artemis. But before Holly and Artemis can get away, Opal arrives and ... Criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl is back...and so is his cunning enemy, Opal Kobol. At the start of the fourth adventure, Artemis has returned to his unlawful ways. Love the Artemis Fowl books!
As part of the well written Artemis Fowl children's book series (which adults too, will like,) this book is great, and we get to know what drives Opal, a rather psychotic creature. It is, in fact, far FAR better than the unfortunate movie that has just come out (2020?) and made a horrid jumble of the books. They should have stuck to book one, and told that story well, not adding ridiculous extras and wasting time with trying to rewrite a good story. The stories are fun, the movie was not. Great, smart, wry fantasy
Utterly original and wry fantasy series for adults as well as kids. This volume sustains the high quality level. I'm in my 50s, a Science Fiction and Fantasy fan since childhood. My daughter turned me on to this series a couple of years ago. A not-quite-evil child genius and high tech faeries from irish myth who secretly dwell deep in the earth's interior and travel up using the force of magma. What's not to like? I wish there were a dozen more Artemis Fowl books. Better yet, one a year for the foreseeable future. I'd buy them all.Utterly original and wry fantasy series for adults as well as kids. Shouldn't this one be called the Evil Opal?
Well, my son stayed up all night reading this one and then spent two days on the internet studying cloning! WOW. He loved the Harry Potter books, but those never sent him to the computer to study up on something that applies to life now! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! Now I have read it and I have to wonder..... Is Opal really gone? Happy reading!
